Update March 2024. Back in Ubud and thought I would pop in for a quick lunch. Sorry to say the standard was not up to previous visits. My request for very very cold beer (& please open it at the table) was warm - & open, so I didn’t feel I could send it back. Yeah, I know. My Crispy Spring Rolls were strangely hot but soggy & the filling was tasteless with zero seasoning or flavour. I’m thinking precooked & rewarmed. I didn’t eat them. Feeling worried, at this stage I tried to cancel the remainder of my order but “it is already being cooked”. Oh well, let’s push on then. 20 minutes later….my “already being cooked” Chicken Sate’s arrived. Looked ok. I had specifically requested extra chilli/spicy. They were bland too but a little better than the mushy springs rolls, until I got to some very questionable pieces of very under-cooked chicken. I stopped right there. They asked me to pay for everything, but I drew the line at the spring rolls, which were reluctantly removed. As I explained very kindly & quietly, the chef needs to know or they can’t fix these issues. It might have been an off day, but I won’t be back. Raw chicken, no thanks. As I’d already given a good review I felt it should be updated.
Visited Warung Gauri on our first night in Ubud in Dec. It has been on my list to try for a long time & didn’t disappoint. I had the Crispy Pork & my husband the Crunchy Chicken. My pork was pretty good although a little tough, but the sambal & those amazing beans certainly made up for it. Hubby’s chicken was a bit dry, but very tasty. The ambience of this little place is outstanding & the service was fabulous too. I will definitely be returning next trip to try more of their menu....
Read moreA bit hidden from the streets, it was a search using Google maps. Saw that it had high ratings and wanted to go and try it out.
Once you enter the place, it has this nice and cozy feel that you have come at the family warungs. The scene where you are enjoying dinner is really nice; it’s a smal garden with tempel and a coy-pond. The tables ar set up nicely for couples with sufficient distance between them. There’s a lot of green around you and good indirect lighting.
The food was what you can expect at a warung, simple but nice. Spring rolls were great! I decided to try the fried duck (was on my list still). Although it was tasty, it was quite a lot of effort for a bit of meat so I guess I can cross it off and leave it at that. The seasoning for the rice was a bit to my coriander-y for me. So the food would only receive 3/5 stars for me. Although I might have tried the incorrect dish. Also, portions were not huge so don’t hesitate to order more! For dessert we had some rice pancakes with fresh coconut scrubs, which tasted fresh and was really good!
Also notable was that I ordered a Kombucha as a drink (for those who don’t know, it’s a fermented tea with probiotic properties stemming from Indonesia). It tasted like propped kombucha (should be soured) but also had the nice addition of various fruits, such as strawberry, lime and mango. I believe this drink was called ‘Pinky Red’. Worth a try!
Staff was friendly and although the food took around 30 min to arrive, they were always close in case you wanted to order something else. Expect to pay around 200k for 2 persons.
Summary Food: 7.5/10 Staff: 9/10 Atmosphere:...

It is off the beaten track. Look for it on Google maps. You have to get to the north of Jl. Bisma, then trun down a small footpath that is on the same side of the road as the minimart.
When you get to the end of the path, turn left its about 20 yards down the path, overlooking a paddy field. In total it is less than 2 minutes from the main street and totally safe to walk.
This place gets full quickly. If you get there at about 6pm, and you have 1-4 people dining, you should be fine. After this time, you may struggle to get a table.
You can take a seat at the front, or wander to the back of the restaurant and enjoy the Al fresco dining while being looked over by Ganesh.
The food is beautiful, both in taste and presentation. I had the Bebek goreng (crispy duck and rice) followed by the simply delicious black rice pudding.. yum!
I also had a bottle of water and 2 glasses of balinese wine... for a grand total of 167,000IDR.
The restaurant also has a resident diva... a pug dog, who is very entertaining.... see my video when it realises it's not getting any attention 🤭
I have no idea why this isn't yet top rated restaurant in Ubud. Its one of the best dinners I've had since getting here.
There was a young family with a baby and there was a high chair available. The stagg were lovely interacting with the small child and had toys for him to play with, so it is definitely family friendly, although most the clientele were solo travellers...
