After reading so many good reviews, and having lived in Ubud for 13 years I decided to give Taco FIesta a try. Bad decision. It was around 12.30pm on Wednesday 16th July 2025, and the restaurant was empty. Except for me ordering a take away
I ordered a 3 soft taco mix (1 shrimp, 1 chicken, 1 beef). I specifically told the girl taking my order (named Nirmala), "no chilli, no chilli sauce as I have an allergy". I also ordered 2 sides of guacamole with my order. As I waited they very kindly gave 2 mini tacos as a gift ...... but as I put the first one in my mouth I tasted immediately that they had chilli on them. I reminded the girl I cannot have chilli in my tacos. And asked again to remind the kitchen. When my take-away order came I thanked the girl and left in my car. As I sat in the traffic I checked the order and found they had NOT put the guacamole in, but had put tomatoes and sour cream instead. So I turned around in the heavy traffic, and returned to the restaurant and politely told the girl they had made a mistake. She asked me to wait a moment. After 5 minutes I decided to go upstairs to the kitchen to see why it was taking so long. It seemed like they were prioritising another order, which I kind of understood, but was also like "come on guys", it's just 2 little plastic cups of the same side dish which I am sure are already prepared". Anyway, I got the guacamole and left to drive home to eat.
At home, after taking 1 bite of the tacos it was clear that something in the taco contained chilli. I was grateful that I spotted it straight away, as it could have been a more serious reaction had I not. It is not the first time I have had this experience, so I was not mad. But I was confused as to how such a clear and simple communication could have got messed up.
Anyways, in the end I could not eat them, so fed them to the dog. I have an allergy, so it is not a little mistake. And I speak Bahasa Indonesian well enough (my partner is Indonesian, and I have lived here for 13 years) to know that the instructions given when I ordered were clear..... Nothing containing chilli, as I have an allergy to it.
I am sharing this not because I am angry, but because it is a dangerous mistake to make!!
And I was left hungry and out of pocket by...
Read moreGojek app for 40 minutes said my order was on time and that the restaurant was cooking my food. Then it said delayed so I went to the restaurant to pick it up myself, and the restaurant says they did not start preparing my food because not yet have a driver. The manager told me they have problems like this “every day” with Gojek. The primary problem is that gojek app actively lies to customers, but the second problem is this restaurant allows customers to order from them via an app that fails to deliver orders for them every single day. In my case, I’m staying at an Airbnb with my wife and 1 year old baby girl, who is hungry and crying. It’s not Ok. I recommend to this restaurant to complain to gojek as often and loudly as possible for them to more quickly notify customers when there is no driver instead of lying to customers that the restaurant is cooking food and the order is on time. If that doesn’t work (probably won’t), I would recommend they leave Gojek and deliver their own food or just offer pick up. When you know someone is lying in your name, and you let them do that to make a little more money, that makes...
