Papege s warung — Restaurant in Bali

Papege's Warung has a special place in my heart. It is also one of the main reasons Ubud itself has a special place in my heart.

The owner is truly a caring person, and treats you kindly and with all her presence. The prices aren't touristy by "touristy"'s standards at all, and the vibe is so perfect that so often enough you just end up striking a conversation with the other guests who are there. The place is big enough, yet at the same time also small enough, for these beautiful connections to happen. It is located beside a strolling path junction, so you can also just watch the world go by. Exceptionally beautiful.

And the soft little background lounge music that plays through some little speakers, it's perfect! It doesn't get in the way of your thoughts or your conversations, just sits in the background.

Do go with the right expectations; it is often manned by one person and everything is cooked with care, so food may not come immediately. I recommend bringing a book or kindle to pass the time. That you may not need if you find someone to talk to!

Our favorite place to eat in Ubud. Tucked away on a quiet street, the peaceful ambiance allows you to enjoy a delicious meal away from all the traffic noise. The owner is wonderful, super nice and hardworking woman who deserves 10 stars. We found this place to be the most affordable and the portions are very reasonable for the price. The spring rolls and chicken soup (Soto ayam) are particularly good. Juices are half the price of what other places charge. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a restaurant with great service, value...

The most humble warung I visited in Bali. Not only is the food delicious (the veggie gado-gado was excellent) but Ayu, the owner, is one of the kindest Balinese ladies I met on my trip - she felt like family! You can tell that her warung is a passion for her, and it’s reflected in the food, service and prices. I dropped by out of curiosity, because I was staying nearby, but honestly it’s worth going out of your way to visit. Being at VeGe’s warung was a truly memorable experience that I’ll never forget....
