I have had a very enjoyable stay at the Hotel Papadopoli Venezia – Mgallery.
As a loyal Accor member, this is the only hotel in Venice proper under this brand.
However, the main reason that I have decided to stay here is the location, probably the best located hotel in Venice. If you are arriving/traveling by plane/train/vehicle, the hotel is located right at the entrance to the city, a 5-minute walk (over one pedestrian bridge, which has a ramp that makes it easy to transport wheeled luggage) from Piazzale Roma. The train station is less than a 10-minute walk, over two pedestrian bridges. Multiple waterbus (Vaporetto) lines are a 5-minute walk away as well.
Staff service was friendly, welcoming, and professional.
The room was nicely decorated, in a style that I would associate with traditional Venetian. The view outside was of the adjacent canal running next to the hotel. The hotel, being located at the ‘entrance’ to Venice, is quite lively and busy. Nevertheless, the noise from outside did not bother me or was too loud to the point of affecting the quality of my stay.
The hotel bed was very comfortable. The spa bathroom was fantastic. My only issue with the shower was that the shower door did not stop water from completely flowing out of the shower area. Not a big deal but still something for the hotel to address.
The hotel Wi-Fi was good. The TV channel selection was good as well, although there were a few channels that were not in Italian.
The fridge came with a mini bar selection, leaving little room to add your own items in it. The safe in the room is large enough to accommodate a 14” laptop.
The one thing that was lacking in the room was a desk to be able to use my laptop comfortably. There was a coffee table and flat space area above the fridge but none of these spots were ideal.
The hotel breakfast was a disappointment. I found the selection to be mediocre. Specifically, the scrambled eggs were bad. The coffee was good though. Food options are abundant in the city which does not necessitate eating breakfast at the hotel.
In summary, the hotel is a very good choice to stay in while in Venice. Terrific location, friendly staff, a nice room with a comfortable bed and lovely bathroom facility were the most important things for me in selecting my accommodations while visiting the amazing...
Read moreWhen we walked into this hotel we thought we had entered paradise. It is absolutely breathtaking. It backs up to a beautiful park and their dining room has been decorated to look like it is part of the park. We had breakfast there every morning and it proved to be the most delicious breakfasts of our trip. We arrived straight from the U.S, around 10 a.m. and our check in time was not until 2, but they had our room ready. When they opend the door to the room, we were expecting a bed and a sofa sleeper. Instead, they had this beautiful red vevet sofa already made up into a bed with luxurious bedding on it and the room full of silver furnishings that looked like Juliet lived there. My 18 year old granddaughter was in heaven. We then walked into our room and there was a gorgeous canopy bed with period furnishings and wallpaper, with a window that opened out onto the canal so we could see the gandolas float by, making me feel as if I had stepped into a Shakespeare Play. We loved everything about this hotel. The staff were all wonderful, the room clean and beautiful every day when we came back. We enjoyed having a glass of wine in their downstairs patio or bar in the afternoons. It was magical and made our stay in Venice so special. It is away from the crowds, close enough to walk to what we wanted to see and near the train station. When it was time for us to leave, we had the desk call a porter to take our bags to the train station for us. This definitely proved to be worth the cost, which was minimal, 8 euros a bag versus paying 80 for a water taxi, because there were 3 bridges we had to cross and some only had stairs. It would have been an effort with 2 suitcases each. My husband gave the porter a nice tip because he was huffing and puffing to get that cart up the steep bridges. He was very appreciative and told my husband to move his backpack to the front and watch out for pickpockets when we were getting on and off the trains. That is how my father got pickpocketed on his trip to Italy, so we were prepared, but we were thankful for him reminding us. We loved our stay in Venice so much more this trip than my last trip. It was much hotter and the crowds were much larger 10 years ago. We hit it at a better time. The weather was cool and we never had to wait in line...
Read moreUpon arrival at 10 a.m. at the hotel on Saturday, Sept. 23, the unfriendly front desk clerk summarily dictated to my girlfriend and myself to walk around for 4-5 hours because our room (king-size bed reservation). Additionally, there was no breakfast included, no lunch at the hotel. Therefore, we had to go spend time and money outside the hotel for 4-5 hours. The room we reserved was a King Size bed, however they staff just put two twin-beds together and called it a “king size bed”. The air condiditioning was not working and when it was it did not cool the room sufficiently; why then advertise a/c on the hotel website. During our 2-day stay we attempted to switch to a true king-size room, but what they showed my girlfriend was a much smaller room with a king size bed, huhhh??? So we decided to remain in the larger room with the twin beds aka ‘king size bed’. At some point, my room key card was either deprogrammed and rendered useless. I went to the front desk and requested a duplicate key, but the young lady said “No!” and pointed to the direction of outside the door saying my girlfriend was outside somewhere. What kind of response is that and one that I have never experienced in any of my travels, either domestically (U.S.) or internationally. I was left speechless. When my girlfriend and I wanted to dine in the restaurant, the gentleman in charge said he had too many reservations and would have to see where he could put us. The restaurant was empty, the tables were spaced very far apart with no ‘atmosphere’, so we decided to leave and found a charming restaurant right across the hotel with great food and wine that was reasonably priced. Obviously, this disappointment added to the other disappointments and this was our first trip to Italy and not a great way to begin our long-awaited vacation. My fiancee and I were shopping around for a future honeymoon location and we’re glad doing our due-diligence saved us a lot of money and time wasted. The only positive comment was that they young man and lady who tended at the bar were friendly, efficient, and refreshing. I certainly hope this hotel is not typical of the service in the rest of Venice, not a good...
