This was the first part of our Honeymoon in Italy. We stayed at Hotel Gardenia for 4 nights Oct 13-Oct 17, 2019. I am in Customer Service and treat all my customers like family members. I strive to give the most personal individualized service with every communication so I have high expectations and am not easily impressed by just the way a place looks, I am all about how it runs and how I am treated as the guest. Hotel Gardenia and its professional, yet very warm and personable staff did not disappoint, in fact they not only met my expectations, they far exceeded. Like any of you reading this, I too was looking for just that perfect place to stay in Venice and Hotel Gardenia is truly a great choice, I highly recommend. Location: Central to everything you want and need: the train station is right across the canal, so is the Vaporetto station and a main hub for all lines. Piazzelle Roma is an 8 min walk. You can walk everywhere from here (we did) but it is Venice and you also want to use the Vaporetto to get around - it is best to get a multi-day pass you will see Venice from the water which is such an exciting treat (don't waste your money on the Gondola - it is not your grandmothers gondola ride of the past, not worth it at all) The Hotel: We had a wonderful room #304 with an incredible view of the canal right in front of the hotel as well as the Grand Canal. Lots to see and watch and hear! Yet when you close the windows it is blissfully quiet. There was a delicious bottle of Prosecco waiting for us when we arrived. The bed was good size and extremely comfortable! Bathroom was great and had no issues with shower. There is a mini fridge in the room so when you are out during the days you can grab some water and treats and keep them cold for when you return in the evening. There is 24hr front desk, so always felt safe and comfortable at any time. I am not a breakfast person, but my husband is and the buffet they put out was not only ample and lovely to look at, it was yummy! SERVICE: Alessandro and Peter, I cannot thank you enough for your hospitatlity, it was the two of you that truly made our stay here wonderful and memorable! You are both so professional and yet so personal and funny! We felt very cared for and wanted others to know that when they book here at your beautiful "House" they are in the best of hands! Your tips, advice, general knowledge of Venice was invaluable to us and the water taxi ride out to Murano to have a personal guide give us a tour of a glass-making factory was incredibly special! VALUE: This is by far, one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in - not so expensive, not too inexpensive - just perfect and worth every penny. Do not even hesitate to stay here, you will not be disappointed, I dealt directly with the hotel, Alessandro and was able to communicate what I wanted to make sure the room would be for us - from that very first email communication, Alessandro was extremely communicative and helpful and it was what sealed the deal for me. I have read other horrible reviews and will say please consider the person that is writing those reviews, if you are a good person, well mannered you will have no problem anywhere in the world. Additionally, you must do some research and talk to a hotel to make sure you can get what you want. Dont book a "Basic" room in Italy and expect 5 star ammenities, it does not work that way. Look at photos, talk with the hotel and get the most room you can afford, it is worth it. Thank you for reading my lengthy review, great service deserves the praise and Hotel Gardenia is just one of the greats! Laura...
Read moreOn the plus side this hotel is very well placed for those using the train, or bus stations. When you are in Venice you will see lots of people walking all over town with their luggage getting to their hotel. That will not be you. This hotel is just across the bridges from the bus terminal or the train station.
On the down side. You are a 30 minute walk away from the top tourist spots in the city. Walking around Venice is challenging because tools like Google Maps get confused as the roads and alleyways are so close together you don't get accurate location placement from GPS. Like most places in Italy this 3 star hotel has exceedingly small rooms. Not a big deal for most as they won't be in the room except to sleep anyway.
Biggest downside of this hotel? The air conditioning is very poor. Temperatures while we visited were getting into the 30's (85 and higher). The room was very warm. It was impossible to cool down, and we had to sleep with windows open to get any air. That is when the mosquitoes had their dinner. If you are in Venice during cooler times of year consider this hotel. If you have expectations that it will be warm I would look for a...
Read moreUnhelpful and pretty bad in addition to that the misrepresentation of the regulations of cooling or heating the room is an outrage On Oct16 the temperature was warm, so we set the thermostat to 20 c and the room heated to 26 c - when we went looking for help from staff a fan was handed to us snd we were told its municipal restrictions that prevent cooling, Chat gpt does not agree .
Given the facts, a plausible scenario is: • The hotel’s climate system is centrally managed (common in old buildings in Venice) and may operate in a “heating mode” or “cooling mode” but not both simultaneously. • Because you were staying outside the standard “cooling season” (or early in it) the hotel may.have chosen to keep the system in heating mode only (either to save energy or because the system cannot switch). • The hotel staff may have used the “municipal restrictions” argument as a justification or convenience, but it may not strictly reflect a specific municipality-mandated ban on cooling for your room/time. • The thermostat showing “20°C” but the room heating to 26°C suggests mis-calibration, or the system is in heating mode and the thermostat is not...
