Osteria Leone Alato created a truly remarkable flavor journey that simply cannot be replicated elsewhere. This gem right next to the canal brings the tasty smells of the food and the life of the city was an eye-opening experience, not only for its fusion of traditional Italian flavors with modern techniques, but also for their signature dish. As a passionate foodie, I had always wanted to visit Italy and feast my eyes on some of its delicious culinary delights. So when I got the chance to spend a few days in Venice this summer, naturally it was top of my list! One place that definitely made an impression on me during my stay was Osteria Leone Alato – an upscale eatery tucked away in a back street near St Mark’s Square. Not only did the restaurant offer sublime dishes prepared with local ingredients (the braised veal ragout was particularly divine!) but it also served up something truly unique: black ink spaghetti. The vibrant color that made it stand out from other pastas I’ve tasted around the world, also its bold taste and texture made this an unique entree, presented with pieces of squid on an intense black background that looks like something out of high-end gastronomy magazine! truly beautiful. 📍 Osteria Leone Alato – Venice 💶 What I Ordered: Pizza 🍕 + Spaghetti 🍝 📍 Location Perk: Just a few minutes from the Venice Bus Stop, with canal-side seating and a gorgeous view of a monument where locals and tourists alike relax and enjoy the vibe.

✨ I stumbled upon this gem near the Venice bus terminal and couldn’t have picked a better spot for my first real Italian meal! With a beautiful canal-side view and outdoor seating, the setting was picture-perfect—people chatting, laughing, and soaking in Venice’s charm.

🍝 I tried spaghetti here, and honestly… the best I’ve ever had. Rich in flavor, perfectly cooked, and exactly what I imagined when dreaming of Italian pasta. 🍕 The pizza was fresh and satisfying—crispy crust, quality ingredients, and generous portions.

💸 Is it pricey? Yes, a bit—but so is the rest of Venice, and this place actually delivers quality and authenticity, unlike many overhyped spots.

👨‍🍳 The staff was fantastic—attentive, polite, and genuinely helpful without being intrusive. They made the experience smooth and comfortable.

This is why for me is a 2:

1. I’ve made a reservation and when I got to the restaurant I was not even asked for the reservation made; therefore, you don’t even need to reserve to get a good table
2. with nowadays measures we were not asked for the green pass or pcr test
3. before we have even finished my appetizer I got my main dish served. It’s normal to be asked if you’re done to get your new dish so it doesn’t get cold; well… not this time.
4. when we finished eating but we didn’t finish the wine, they gave us the dessert menu feeling like rushing us to leave
5. when I got the bill the tip was already included (12%) which I’ve asked to not be included after the poor service we got (really was far away from 12%, and it should not be included as far as I know from Italy’s law). I always tip even better than that but this time was not accurate to do that.

Last, but not least, when we got our coffee with milk we got it with cold milk, during really cold weather.
