I’m kind of an introvert, so being alone in Japan and going to a Touhou bar was a bit intimidating, but this experience turned out to be one of the highlights of my trip.
Here’s how it went: I arrived and sat at the back since it was full, and basically I was too afraid to speak to anyone. But after a couple of minutes, a regular at the bar came over and we started talking. His English wasn’t perfect, and my Japanese is worse, but we used Google Translate to communicate. Really good guy, but after some time he went home, and again I was alone.
Then, another person spoke to me and let me take his spot at the bar. I ordered a character themed drink (it was delicious) and enjoyed a couple of drinks and shots. Even when I was done drinking, he let me stay, sip water, and just watch everyone having a good time.
Some places in Japan during my trip didn’t feel friendly to foreigners, but this bar is special. A 22 year old introvert who doesn’t know what to do in his life and can barely speak Japanese no matter how much he learn, I was able to have an amazing time and return to my...
Read moreA really atmospheric bar where you can enjoy a discussion with others touhou fans (if you speak japanese or at least are lucky enough to have another english speaker there while you visit). Unlike other themed bar you'll be paying for each drink/dish, which can be a bit expensive but well worth it (especially the character cocktail, which can be based on several criterias like the character chosen, colors, type of alcohol used, they'll bting a figure of the character if they have it and something to highlight your drink for a good picture)
Overall I was lucky enough to find another english speaking person during my stay (Hi Matthias !) but I also gotta mention how friendly the regulars were too, engaging conversation with me despite the language barrier.
If you are a touhou fan it is a definitely a place to visit during your travel ! Even more so if you have someone else...
Read moreOne of the three Touhou-related bars in Japan I know of and went to, the other two are in Tokyo and Sapporo.
As with the other two Touhou-bars, it is absolutely packed with Touhou-related goods such as artworks, figures, posters and so on.
Pricing in here is different than the two other bars in that there is no time-based charge.
You can try asking the bartender for a character cocktail, alcoholic or not, and he will try to make it for you. He will also ask you how many colours your cocktail will have, and some really colourful cocktails can be made at your request.
The bartender and his customers are also really hilarious.
One thing to note is that the bar is really small and can get really crowded to the point you may have to stand during busy nights. Another point to note is that some of its customers may...
