To everyone who is reading the 1 star reviews, please notice how they all talk about the sanitary aspect of the rooms. Also notice how most of the 5 star views only talk about the food as well as the beautiful scenery surrounding the hotel. Do the 5 star reviews talk about the rooms themselves? No. No they don’t. And most of the other reviews that are not 5 stars mention the room in some way shape or form. Why? Because these rooms are truly horrendous. As a traveler from New York City, I’ve seen my fair share of questionable sanitary situations, such as the smelly and infamous NYC subways. But never in my life have I been to a hotel this bad, and considering how the Japanese are notoriously known for their cleanliness as well as how I’m used to the state of American hotels, that’s a wild statement for me to be making. And to the travelers seeing the past reviews regarding bugs (and no sorry, I could not stomach it in me to take a photo of the ant I found in my bed because I was horrified) in the rooms, yes, unfortunately they are true. Excuse my language here, but why the hell did I spend so much money just to find bugs in my own bed and be unable to fall asleep for the rest of my stay here. That’s honestly sad. Again, I have never been to a hotel this disgusting nor have I ever found any type of insect in a past hotel room, which should say something about this hotel. And the hotel rooms are outdated, as most other reviews imply. You step in the room, you will instantly find a stain or a horrific looking sratch on the wall or on a piece of furniture. And the shower? It looks like it genuinely has never been cleaned ever. And don’t forget the ambiance of the room - which I think is quite important as well if you’re going to be spending this much money and be staying here for a while. Needless to say, the ambiance is also atrocious and miserable like the sanitary situation of the room: outdated with ridiculously bright orange lighting. This part will depend on travelers, but I personally hated the ambiance, and it completely killed my mood. I legitimately wanted to leave so badly during my stay here. For the price and status of this hotel, you would absolutely expect much more. Save your money and go somewhere better and cheaper. The hotel’s famous garden, food, location, and distance from Shinagawa Station isn’t even worth it. Who cares about those factors when you will be presented with a fatal flaw? The cleanliness of the rooms itself gets this place a 1 star rating from me. I can’t even rate this hotel a 2 star (the scenery from the garden, I will admit, is beautiful and the food is pretty good too) because the state of these rooms ruins it. This place is not seriously worth it, and you need to run if you ever come here. I quite literally rather sleep on the JR subway trains than ever come here ever again. God forbid, I might even fall asleep on the NYC’s MTA subway trains instead because this place is genuinely disgusting.

One of the worst hotels in Tokyo i have ever stayed in. The Via Inn, JR Inns and even the neighbouring Prince N Tower are 200% better than this outdated, unrenovated dump. When you step into the lobby, it looks grand and raises your expectations that this is a superior hotel. This only lasts until you get to the room. Where to begin? See below and accompanying photos. 1. The room lighting controls still use knobs! And the light switches are scattered all over the room and placed in non-intuitive locations. Example : the switch for one of the lights is placed on the desk next to a power socket. One would presume that its a switch that controls the socket. But noooooooo, there are no markings to indicate what it is for. 2. The aircon has 2 separate wall controls - a thermostat with a dial, and a knob for blower speed. The knob is located inside the wardrobe, while the 1970s era thermostat dial control is located on the wall next to the bed. What kind of idiot designed this room? 3. The room carpet is old and tired, and counter surface has stains that are seeped-in and cannot be cleaned. 4. The toilet flush handle is a wall mounted 1970s lever and the counter sink and bathtub are so old and run-down. The room uses a bathtub with a curtain - a curtain for crying out loud - instead of a safer, glass-enclosed modern shower cubicle. The curtain is old and smells mouldy, making the whole bathroom musty. Side note : rooms with bathtubs make no sense - if your foot catches the top lip while getting in and out, you pitch forward and break your neck or bash your face. Bathtubs should be banned on the grounds of being both a safety hazard and wastage of water. 5. No coin laundry - they force you to use their expensive hotel laundry service. The supposedly cheaper neighbouring Prince N Tower had a coin-operated laundry room, but that option alone makes it far superior to this hotel in terms of support facilities. 6. Its located on a hill about 500m from the train station. On a map, this looks close to Shinagawa station. But the walk uphill is tiring if you have to wheel baggage and you arrive sweaty and irritated. It doesnt help that the hotel shuttle bus only operates between 0800 and 2100 at 20min intervals and it doesnt drop you at Shinagawa station as at 2023 - it drops you at the main Prince Hotel and you have to walk to Shinagawa on your own. Summary : save your money - don't stay at this dump where only the lobby has been done up to try to impress people while the rooms are stuck in the 1970s and meant for cattle class. Stay at a JR Inn or Via Inn instead. Newer hotels and better support facilities like coin laundry (dont count hotel pools as facilities to use - pools are overrated and often dirty with microbes and other contaminants). The Prince Hotel brand really sucks bad - i guess thats why they called it "prince" instead of "king".
