i’m normally not a difficult guest. i unpack my stuff right away and keep it neat and orderly throughout my stay. the cleaning staff often jokes with me asking me if i even slept in that bed or if i used the room at all. this time tho, i just kept messing up, it was surreal. i started with the tv and i couldn’t stop. there was nothing i did that didn’t end in disaster. yet, they were so kind and attentive to my needs and wishes, going extra to be helpful. the way things are, i am content if they just provide what they said they will and leave satisfied if there were no problems. it's hard to believe just how most of them tend to fail at this basic level. but here, it wasn’t just that that i couldn’t fault them but that they kept earning cookie points from me too. and with a smile to boot. take the example of their coupon service for food. i couldn’t make breakfast at any point of my stay, for which i had paid. but i could use their point system to get me plenty of food that i could have for lunch or dinner and i even took home with me whatever else i could get with what was left. plus they had vegetarian food, it was incredible and they even helped me warm it up and lend me a plate and utensils, sth they didn’t have to.
true the rooms are tiny. true i was stuck next to the service room (a massive pet peeve of mine and of course i ended up there because i forgot to put it in the request box) but it was so comfy that room and everything was so immaculate and so perfect (unlike the very similar room i ended up in bangkok that failed to impress in more ways than one) and the overall service i got was so impressive (they actually get how offensive and insulting it is not to speak to foreign resident in japanese when we have put in the time and energy and sweat blood to get there and that type of attention to detail really touched me. once, someone slipped but they caught themselves so fast, i knew this wasn’t random. sb had trained them properly. one of the main reasons i decided not to go back to another hotel that was perfect in every other way was because of this. the lady at the front desk spent the whole time testing me and trying to have me fail instead of, you know, providing the customer service that is part of her job and making me feel welcome and comfortable).
the bottom line is that this will be my hotel of choice every time i go to tokyo now. i seldom go to tokyo to rest and hang out in my room so for that place i need to crash at the end of the day, it was more than sufficient. everything worked and the wifi never failed me once. i'll choose it even if it isn’t in the area i’ll be spending most of my time, it’s so close to the station and i couldn’t believe how close. it’s so convenient in every way this hotel, in every way. just hit that booking button. you won’t regret it. do it early tho. i tried to add nights at the last minute and it was just too pricey. had i known how impeccable it was, i would have probably just paid tho. top 3 best customer service at a hotel ever. loved loved loved this place. loved it.

Read moreAbsolutely loved staying here during the first two weeks in May! This was the first of four hotels I booked for my trip (spanning Tokyo/Osaka/Kyoto), and though the others were more expensive, I felt most at home here. The staff were some of the most friendly people I met, always greeting me warmly every time I came back to the hotel. They were so helpful and spoke fluent English -- I was able to set up the usual traveler requests like luggage forwarding with no issues, but I was pleasantly surprised by the little things like offering a towel to dry my hair when I got caught by a sudden squall on my way back one evening. They also took my funny little mistakes in stride -- I wound up donating a long vinyl umbrella to them after finding out it wouldn't fit in my luggage, and we all had a little laugh over it!
Accommodations are nice. 50 yen for water by request at the front desk. Pajamas and simple amenities (eg. toothbrush, cotton swabs) are provided. Towels and garbage changed out daily, with a more thorough ECO cleaning (full sheet change, etc.) every few days (think it was 4?). Standard double room is a bit small, but par for course for Tokyo. I managed just fine with the space, though I would say having one full-sized luggage and one backpack as a solo traveler was probably the limit for comfortable maneuverability. That said, I got a room on the top (14th) floor, which made for some beautiful views in the mornings! Desk is pretty efficient with several shelves on the side to stash things. The bed's backboard has a little cubby hole that has a USB port for charging, nice place to stick my phone. Curtains were fully blackout when lowered completely. Bathroom was very comfortable -- bidet with heated seat! (This was the only hotel I went to that had a heated seat, despite going to pricier places. I sorely missed this!)
I don't normally do hotel breakfasts, but I did try it here occasionally. Straightforward enough, just pay for a meal ticket at the front desk -- for access to freshly cooked food/fresh fruits/veggies, AYCE breakfast buffet is reasonably priced at 1500 yen.
Speaking of convenience, there's a 7/11 right across the street as well as a small supermarket. There's a laundry room on the ground floor, but there are a couple coin laundries within 5 minutes of the hotel as well.
Neighborhood is cozy and quiet -- walking around surrounded by locals going to and from work feels like an authentic small town experience as opposed to the touristy sensory overload of the big city centers. JR Chuo and Asakusa line are 5 minute walk; Akihabara is a similarly easy 15 minute walk (I often preferred just walking directly to Akiba rather than take the train during rush hour)
10/10, coziest stay I had on my trip. Will definitely stay here the next time I visit Japan!
