Where to start with the wonderful Meunna Boutique Hotel? The moment we arrived we were made welcome by hotel manager Cuong who sat us down, made us a fruit smoothie, and showed us a map of Luang Prabang and highlighted all the best places to go. Cuong is without doubt the friendliest hotel manager we have ever encountered during all our travels, he is always smiling, always there to help, and booked us everything from laundry service to a trip to the waterfalls, and his English is superb.
It’s a small hotel with fourteen rooms. We were on the upper floor in a very spacious room with a gorgeous balcony overlooking the swimming pool (which Cuong cleans every morning). The bed was huge and as comfortable as our own at home and was made up everyday by the cleaning staff. The room also included a small desk which was great for doing a few admin tasks on my laptop, good air conditioning, and a fridge. The shower was the best we had in south east Asia. A spacious glass cubicle, with a powerful shower with hot water. Perfect!
I have nothing negative to say about Meunna, but a few things to note.
The swimming pool is gorgeous and great for cooling off. But it’s not the hotel for you if you like sunbathing by the pool all day. It has three sunbeds fixed into position, and the pool takes up much of the space. Great for what we wanted it for though, which was sitting in the sun and cooling off in the pool.
The hotel is located in a quiet location, one minute from the local supermarket, but no noise from the bars closer to the centre. The furthest it ever took us to walk to the main attractions - like sunset on the Mekong, the night market, or the historic quarter - was 10-15 minutes. And the pavements in Luang Prabang are superb compared to Thailand.
Overall, a great hotel with a wonderful hotel manager in a beautiful city. I would recommend Meunna Boutique Hotel to anyone staying in...
Read moreWe stayed in the top floor with a bath for the first 3 days then moved to the lower floor pool access room for 2 days as we extended our stay. Both rooms have different reviews.|To begin with I cannot express enough how helpful friendly and professional Koung the manager is, wow he is an absolute gem :) an incredible asset to this hotel.|His morning breakfast cooked by him is amazing, the choice is very good my hubby especially liked the Lao sandwich. On an early start one day he made us sandwiches to go, so that we could eat them once we got to Kung Si Waterfall.|Koung helped us out with tours and we hired 2 motorbikes from him that were in excellent condition for $10 per day, Koung also organised for my prohibited items not allowed on the train to get to my next hotel in Vang Vieng, they were there we arrived the next day :) |The hotel is in a quieter part of town, but still a nice easy walk to the street food market and lots of restaurants close by.|The pool was lovely, again spotlessly clean.|The hotel and our large rooms were spotless, lovely hot water with good water pressure, nice smelling toiletries, with great WIFI throughout all the hotel areas.|However, the rooms just need a few more basic touches as neither rooms have drying clothes racks, wicker baskets would also be a good idea for used towels, as I didn't like just putting them in the bath upstairs or on the shower floor downstairs, hooks are definitely needed for towels as there is no where to hang them.|The air con upstairs is better in that it doesn't face the bed, but downstairs its directly opposite the bed so we was unable to use it during the night as our faces got too cold.|The bed was a bit too hard but that's just...
Read moreOur poolside room was great. I was initially concerned with the amount of privacy and the noise from the pool as the walls and door were see-through glass and our door opened up literally onto the pool but the thick curtains offered privacy and the walls were thick enough to give us quiet. I was unfortunately sick for a good part of our stay in Luang Prabang so didn't get to explore and sightsee as much as I would have liked, spending much of my time in the hotel room. Fortunately, the room was very comfortable, easy access to fresh air outside, and not claustrophobic at all but still gave me the privacy I liked. There was no breakfast but the hotel offers free bicycles to ride around to any of the plethora of restaurants nearby. Best of all, Qong, the manager was one of the most hospitable and friendly people in a country of friendly people. From the standard check in routine with a map outlining the nearby sights and attractions to going out of his way to set up transport to the airport and even print out visas for our next leg to Vietnam, Qong made sure our stay was as comfortable and stress-free as possible. Whatever we needed was provided--kitchenware to carve up our fruit, laundry service, answers to questions about local sights, transportation requests.
The hotel was a little difficult to find as it is off the main road and the sign at the street is small but once you know where it is, it's...
