KARMA Hotel - A place to feel at home...
I'm not the usual reviewer. But this time I see it as very appropriate to write one. The small but fine Karma Hotel in the middle of the Thamel district, Kathmandu has conquered my heart. The open, warm, respectful way in which I was greeted and cared for not only did me good but also impressed me.
But first a few details: a. The location of the hotel is wonderfully situated in the middle of the Thamel area. A perfect location to get to know the hustle and bustle of this vibrant district. Various "must see" attractions are within easy walking distance from here.
b. The hotel has been completely renovated after the Covid period and makes a welcoming first impression upon entering.
c. The non-smoking rooms are wonderfully furnished, very clean, with air conditioning, TV, large bathroom and, if you wish, a balcony if available. (I was kindly offered a balcony as I am a smoker.) WIFI is also available.
d. The small lobby invites you to chat with the owner, the staff or other guests. In addition, a small, nice, simple but completely sufficient breakfast is served here, with a great selection of coffee, or in the evening, if desired, a beer or juice.
e. What helped a lot is the fact that the hotel owner offers a range of tours for a very reasonable price compared to the usual tour operators. The offer is complete with the hotel's own driver and, if desired, a guide.
All in all I had a wonderful stay in this hotel and therefore in Kathmandu. A special thanks to Buddhi the owner and a big shout out to the wonderful staff, Yogesh, Rajan, Keshab and the driver GP! Thank you guys for your care :-)
An absolute recommendation on my part!
PS: A shuttle-pick up from (and to) Kathmandu International Airport is provided...
Read moreLocation: Perfectly located in Thamel, accessible and close to good restaurants, shops, clubs, etc. Taxi is also easy to hail here (or online order). Not on the busiest streets in Thamel so it is more quiet.
Staff and Services: They are all very friendly and helpful! They have airport transportation service, money exchange service, and anything you need just ask away!
Cleanliness and Facilities: It’s sufficient and not dusty. The room’s size is perfect (not too big or small). You should ask if you want your room to be cleaned daily or whatnot. There’s AC, TV, and hot water. The WiFi connection is also quite good (not the strongest but sufficient).
Noise: As a context, Thamel is always busy, alive, and noisy in some areas. So depending on the room (‘s window), you can get a quieter or noisier room, especially during the nighttime — better to ask the staff.
Price: It’s affordable and worthy!
Coffee: In the lobby, they serve one of the best coffees I’ve had...
Read moreThe room wasn't very big but it was adequate and functional. It was very clean, very well maintained (seemed recently painted) and well equiped: there were two night stands on either side of the double bed, a low table for the suitcase, a bigger desk, a chair, AC, mosquito repellent, and a water boiler. Also there were four electric outlets, two of them on either side of the bed. The bathroom was spatious, very clean, and had a shower curtain (hurray!). Breakfast was pretty decent: good coffee (or tea), eggs, potato pancake, french toast with a little bit of butter and jam (I'd prefer a little bit more jam to be honest). Only drawback was that the breakfast area was rather small. The location was excellent: 6 minutes walk from the tourist bus station, and you can find a myriad of restaurants, shops, etc within walking distance. Staff was very friendly, and they can also provide storage for...
