We stayed here having booked a 2 bed apartment, for 4 adults, for 4 nights. We had an apartment on the 4th floor.
The hotels wording is that it is âa sophisticated escape inspired by its surrounding natureâ âŚsophisticated it is NOT. Also states that there is âHillaryâs restaurant with its breathtaking mountain and lake views, featuring conservatory style decor and a kiwi and international menuâ This was closed for evening meals and only the bar open for evening meals. The photo on the website does not reflect the currant seating being used in Hillaryâs. The seating now in situ is a lot older and dirtier than the ones used to stage for the photo.
The positives: The view Decent Tv in living room Comfy bed Kitchen is adequate Nice staff Table and chairs on the balcony are nice.
The negatives: VERY dated, feels like weâve walked into a 1980âs movie. No AC or even a fan in the bedrooms with dated and dirty wall heater (if we were cold) in the living room. Flooded balcony off the main bedroom. Very cheap dining tables and chairs Lots of scrapes on the walls, paintwork chipped. Peeling paint outside on balcony, in the rooms and bathrooms. Exterior balcony walls are covered in moss Shower curtain not screens in bathroom of main bedroom. Also shower over the bath. Broken handle on the door in the bathroom. Vanity kit was just a shower cap. We stayed at the same chain in Wellington and the standard and what we were offered was more and so much better. Limited choice of drinks in the bar Food in bar area very poor, at least we had our food at the same time. The other 3 tables were getting their food one plate at a time so one person had finished before the other 3 had their food. We could hear room noise (closing doors, walking around etc) from next door and people running up and down the corridors. Breakfast was abysmal - we just about managed 1 morning here Would we stay here again⌠No Would we recommend staying here.. No
There is a lack of thought gone into the guest experience. Everything from the rooms, general decor to the food need a MAJOR upgrade. Just feels like they want your money and donât care what theyâre offering in return.
Queenstown is a stunning vibrant place to stay but this hotel has taken the overall love away from our stay in this town.
THIS SHOULD NOT BE ADVERTISED AS A 4* HOTEL. ITS...

I booked so quickly for our NZ vacation without further investigating the reviews. Now I agree with the low ratings of this hotel - all are genuine, confirming my experience. These are the reasons you should never book and stay in this place. False advertising: it is NOT a 4-star place; no air conditioning exists. They use windows to ventilate the hotel. The room smelled mildew, and my kids and husband sneezed all night. It is not a lake-view hotel. The picture of the hotel makes it look like it is right next to the beautiful lake from the balcony. It is FALSE marketing. It is next to the busiest street in Queenstown, with the bus stop right in front of the hotel. The hotel room is filthy, and amenities are old and broken: The carpet looked like it had not been vacuumed for months. Truly disgusting. The bedsheets were not changed, which made me feel itchy the whole night, that I could not sleep. The bathroom sink was yellowish, and the shelf in the shower was broken. The TV SET was not working correctly. On the balcony, there was a bunch of hair under the chair. Noisy rooms and no one can sleep: all the rooms were designed to face the main road. So you can imagine the traffic noise on Frankton Road. They do not bother installing any A/C in the rooms. So, to get fresh air, we relied on opening the windows in the room. All traffic noise is so loud, and it is impossible to sleep from 9 pm until 7 am. Badly designed carpark entrance- the carpark is in a weird spot in the back of the hotel. Going through it requires a sharp turn. We accidentally damaged the rental car. When we raised it to the front desk staff, they shrugged their shoulder and said it was not their responsibility. We left after two nights after this series of nightmares and asked for a refund for the next two nights. With the assistance of Expedia, who advocated refunds and flexibility, but the hotel manager refused the refund. Don't lose your keys - they are physical keys in thisâ4-star hotel.â
They charged over USD 800 for four nights. So it is not worth the money, the stress, and all the aftermaths and hassles.
So stay away from this hotel. Stay in an actual 4-star hotel in the...
Read moreFirstly, Iâd recommended Villa de Lago when staying in Queenstown, we enjoyed Queenstown so much we decided to stay one more night, Villa de Lago was fully booked so we stayed here instead and wish we hadnât.||||It is everything that everyone says it is, run down, old fashioned, poorly maintained, terrible car park, full 1970s retro, on the main road, far from the lake but there wasnât much else available so thought it would be ok for one night.||||On the morning of checkout, I left my Bose AirPods and power bank in the locked room - which locks with a physical metal key. Called back after check out as soon as I realised and was quickly dismissed by the unhelpful front desk and told nothing found in the room. Had to rush for flight so couldnât stay to argue, but complained to manager by email.||||These items were left on the bed, in a locked room, where only limited authorised people had entry. They disappeared into thin air, over ÂŁ200 worth of electrical items and a pair of shorts, just vanished. We didnât pay extra for this magic trick, but the items were well and truly gone. ||||Reported to the police and hotel conducted an âinvestigationâ, they quickly concluded that they also couldnât determine what had happened to them. What a mystery. Location tracking hasnât reconnected and without me determining the location myself from the UK , every follow up just said they hadnât turned up - even though these were dark heavy items which would have been difficult to missâŚ.||||How could this have happened I asked myself? How could these items have sprouted legs and walked off by themselves? The door must have unlocked itself and some invisible people walked in and helped themselves without anyone, including hotel security and cctv noticing. ||||I wouldnât stay there by ever again if you paid me and Iâd recommend if you are desperate enough to stay there, do not leave any valuables and they may also suffer the same disappearing act. This place doesnât even deserve a score of 1, if I could leave a minus...
