I understand that different people expect different things from their accomodition. Still, I am quite surprised that Bons Dias has received such a great reviews. I was staying in the hostel for a night. Was supposed to stay for another night as well, but decided not to. ||||The biggest problem of this hostel is the noise. The hostel is on the 5th floor and you cannot use your room key for the outdoors. Instead visitors must ring a doorbell that is very, very loud. The walls are thin, so even if someone speaks quietly in the hallway, you will hear everything inside your room. I have traveled a lot and seen many hostels and cheap hotels, but in this place I didn't get almost any sleep.||||The building is old and the hostel rooms are in a dark corridor and in my opinion the place is overall unpleasant. There is no living room area or any other place to meet fellow travelers.||||But I want to say thanks for some things, too. The man working at the hostel in the nighttime was very polite and helpful. He did the best he could. Also I was happy to find a muffin, a can of iced tea and a bottle of water waiting in my room even though the room rate does not include breakfast. These things were a definite bonus!||||If you don't mind the noise and staying in a not-so-cosy place, this might be your place, since it is very cheap and the location is as great as everyone says. For me it was a wrong decision to book this place, but I wanted to share my experience in case it helps...
Read moreas mentioned by others, the location is perfect. 2 minutes from rossio metro and train station, and 1 minute to rossio square. a currency exchange and a great supermarket are less than a minute away. when looking for this place, there is only a small sign by the door, but just follow google maps. there is an elevator to the 5th floor. you have to buzz to get in but this is only a 10 second inconvenience. the owner is knowledgeable about lisbon, and a super nice guy. the room is not the biggest but the bed and the pillows are comfy. the is a fridge and tv in the room, the AC is set at only one temperature but it is at the perfect setting, and it does not blow directly on you which usually happens in a small room. there was a large bottle of water in the room, but a daily free bottle would have been nice. you get a box of kleenex which is a rarity in europe. shated bathrooms are spotless and include soap, but no shampoo. you get a housecoat and slippers too since the bathrooms are shared. room was cleaned daily. most of the time the wifi was fast. there is no street noise, if you are a light sleeper, definitely insist that you are not in room 503. it is in the center of the shared bathrooms, the staff room, which includes washer and dryer, and luggage room. you can easily hear everything next door. also right outside your room is the reception area, so you hear all conversations, and you hear the buzzer when people...
Read moreDirty, noisy, bed bugs (great location though): The only good thing about this place was the location, which was actually excellent, very central, right across the street from Rossio train station and walking distance from many city centre spots. Anyway, the low price for this type of accomodation comes with several unpleasant side effects: on the first night we had to ask for new towels as the ones prepared for us were dirty. We also found sort of powder in the bed, apparently from the laundry detergent as one of the blankets wasn´t washed properly. Also after we arrived home, me and my friend both found bites on our skin that look like from bed bugs. The shared bathroom wasn´t that much clean either. The walls were quite thin so you could hear all the loud talking from the common area, and every time someone buzzed the entrance door (which was quite often as guests had no keys or code from the entrance), you could hear it loud and clear from the reception also in your room. The receptionists are quite nice, but they speak very poor to no English and you can pay only in cash. I´m normally quite used to low cost type of accomodation (I don´t mind sleeping in a car, tent or even a former war bunker turned hostel), but this was even beyond my...
