There is a lot to recommend this small friendly hotel. First of all it’s position is fantastic , just behind Hardrock cafe right in the heart of Lisbon . The area is similarly to Covent Garden in London , bars , clubs , restaurants, shops right on your doorstep. The staff are very friendly and helpful , nothing is too much for them and the hotel is very clean .||Unfortunately there are some downsides. Breakfast is about as basic as you can get .. rolls , croissants and eggs with coffee or tea. Fine for a few days but after that it’s very repetitive. ||The hotel has wooden floors throughout so sound travels .. you are aware of comings and goings all the time. ||Perhaps for us the worst thing though was not the hotels fault but more a general Lisbon issue .. homelessness. The rooms at the back of the hotel overlook a little dead end road where there is a camp of homeless men. The double glazing means you don’t hear them much but it’s not a pleasant sight . Open the window in the morning to get some fresh air and there is a good chance you will see them pissing in the street or drunkenly arguing. They never bothered us but still not nice. ||To be fair this is a general problem in Lisbon which looks very tired and run down with beggars and homeless people always around. Such a shame as it is a beautiful historic city but the liberal rulers don’t seem to want to deal with this issue which will eventually lead to a big drop in tourism. Coincidentally we were also offered cocaine and other drugs numerous times every evening ( we are 60 ! ) by street dealers which others might find upsetting and perhaps...

Rates that are equal or greater than 3 and 4 star hotels yet it’s clear that it states it’s a 2 star hotel
No offer of tea or coffee throughout my stay which typically is standard
Smoke filled front balconies as the hotel and restaurant across the street has smokers and loud noise
Staff had an open cut clearly visible on their nose which common sense would indicate is unhygienic and unhealthy when you deal with the public in a hotel. When you ask if there is any available hot water or ice etc rather than being offered upon check in. When you do ask for hot water and ice; a man with a gash on his nose brings it and you wonder if your health endangered by dripping blood or him touching his open sore then your cup, ice or hot water pitcher; it would be clear to use a bandage to maintain guest safety and hotel standards of appearance. Guests should not have ask for common sense health safety and make them address it after my critique so they addressed the issue.
Having to ask for all basic quality standards instead of being serviced. I asked for my room to be made and they didn’t change the sheets or clean the sink.
Rude housekeeping who has a bad customer service attitude when asked for basics like toilet paper. A tip if the guest stays over a week they need more than one roll.
Small beds that felt smaller than twin size as it’s against a wall so you bang your body on it while tossing and turning during sleep.
Staff stares at you while eating and taking breakfast which is very rude and...

The location is unbeatable buried in a very central location with the best of coffee shops, restaurants and boutique shops surrounding the Neighbourhood, including convenience stores (lidl), local groceries(bring cash) and two brilliant gym facilities viva & holmes place ( with 25m pool & sauna / steam room) if you are into Training and need a nearby facility. If running is your thing, Sadiq can add you on Strava and show you all the best run routes in Lisbon. There is also an incredible massage clinic (Og) a couple of doors up. For a fitness enthusiast or if you’re just a healthy person in general, this is the best option - all your needs are more than met.
It’s extremely comfortable not luxurious but if wanting to experience Portugal and have the best stay ever - this is it - with clean cozy beds and amazing hot (and super pressured) showers. Beautiful woooden floors and stair case in the hotel. Perfect WiFi and it’s bright and airy.
The owners Hussain and Sadiq are from the family run business and simply cannot do enough for you - I visited a friend at a much higher star hotel and felt unwelcome and uncomfortable - this experince was unbeatable in my opinion. I highly recommend hotel Portunese & will be back.
I was in Portugal for a family wedding and stayed on some days to relax and catch up on work. Left feeling completely rejuvenated spiritually enriched, physically and...
