A very disappointing restaurant experience❗️❗️

We went to this restaurant because we read good reviews, but as soon as we got to the restaurant and sat down we saw the owner holding a google review sign asking guests to write them a positive review, during which she repeatedly asked if it was a positive review.

First of all, the food was mediocre and the portions were so small that even we girls couldn’t get full. Definitely not worth the price! We ordered two lunch sets and wanted to add some skewers, only to be told that most items are only available at dinner. That’s fine — but what happened next was just unacceptable.

We ended up ordering one minced chicken skewer, waited a long time, and were served something completely different. When we pointed it out, the waitress (a woman wearing glasses) insisted — with a straight face — that it was exactly what we ordered, even though it clearly wasn’t. It was obvious she was lying 🤥. A while later, she came back and admitted that the skewer we ordered is only available at dinner.

It’s not a problem that it wasn’t available — what’s unacceptable is being lied to. We were polite and just said to cancel it. But then, things got even worse.

Our lunch sets were supposed to come with seaweed salad, but we didn’t get any. Only when we saw the table next to us had it, did we realize it was missing. After we asked, the same waitress brought only one serving, even though we had ordered two sets. When I asked again, she just said “Oh,” and then brought the second one. At that point, I honestly didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. Did this staff member show up to work without using her brain?

And finally — when we got the bill, that cancelled skewer was still charged! This is just outrageous. Do you think your customers are fools, and you can trick whoever doesn’t check the bill carefully?

Poor service and zero sincerity. I absolutely do NOT recommend this restaurant. Save yourself the trouble and go somewhere that actually values...

I recently had the absolute pleasure of dining at Saikai Izakaya, and I can confidently say it was one of the most memorable culinary experiences I’ve had in Lisbon. Nestled in the heart of the city, this Japanese restaurant offers not just a meal, but a journey into authentic Japanese cuisine and culture.

From the moment we walked in, we were transported to a beautifully curated space that captures the spirit of Japan with incredible elegance. The attention to detail in the interior design—from traditional decor to subtle modern touches—creates a warm and immersive atmosphere that makes you feel both relaxed and inspired.

Now, let’s talk about the food—each dish was a masterpiece. The flavors were delicate, bold, and deeply authentic, clearly crafted with passion and skill. We tried a variety of dishes, and every single one exceeded expectations. Whether you’re a Yakitori, Edamme Picante, Tsukune, Ebi Tempura lover or eager to try more traditional izakaya plates, there is something here that will absolutely blow you away.

The Japanese drinks were also phenomenal. From expertly selected sake to refreshing cocktails, the beverage menu complements the food perfectly and offers a true taste of Japan’s drink culture.

But what truly sets Saikai Izakaya apart is the hospitality. The staff were incredibly friendly, attentive, and genuinely passionate about sharing the spirit of Japanese dining. Their warmth added a personal touch to the experience that made our visit even more special.

Whether you’re a local or visiting Lisbon, Saikai Izakaya is a must-visit. It’s not just a restaurant—it’s an experience, and one I can’t recommend enough. I will absolutely be returning soon.

5 stars...

The best Japanese restaurant I ever went to in Portugal. The vibe in the restaurant makes us feel we are into an Izakaya in Japan, the staff members are really friendly and nice, they talked a lot about the restaurant, even recommended some desserts to try.

Everything was really nice and tasty, started from the starters to desserts. For starters we had takoyaki and yakitori, so good ! For the main dish i request a Kare with karage it wasn’t in the menu but still the chef did, and i must say it was so delicious, also I’m thankful to the chef for agreed to do it. We had matcha mochi, matcha cheesecake and dorayaki for dessert, everything was so tasty, but i must highlight the matcha mochi it was the best mochi i ever had.

100% my new favourite restaurant, i will come back to try more dishes.

I went there for the second time, and as always a great service and food. I want highlight this employee called Jeny who remembered us for the first time we visit Saikai, she served us with so much sympathy and joy, she make us feel at home, really sweet Woman, I’ve said to her I came back because the food was delicious and I was missing the matcha mochi and she offered me one! So sweet!!

It’s really rare for me to come back to restaurants but this one is one of those that I’ll come back more and more times for sure.

Thank you for the good service and the...

We went to celebrate a friend’s birthday, and when we arrived, the waiter took a long time to come to our table. When he finally did, he was clearly in a hurry — we started ordering drinks while waiting for the others to arrive, but before we could even finish, he would walk away and disappear. It took us almost 30 minutes just to order all the drinks. Then we started ordering starters, and by coincidence, the first two items I asked for he immediately said, “I think we don’t have.” I asked if he thought or if he knew they didn’t have them, and asked him to confirm — turns out one wasn’t available and the other was. The menu is small, and for a Saturday night, several items were already unavailable (???). The starters were a mess — everyone ate at different times, and we had to practically beg for someone to come to our table when we wanted to order something else. A friend who arrived later had to ask three times for a plate so she could eat. The glazed eggplant I ordered at the beginning only arrived 40 minutes later and was inedible — completely raw inside. I’ve never seen such a bad nasu dengaku. The food flavor overall was 8/10 — good but nothing special. The oysters had ponzu that was way too sweet. Overall, quite disappointing. Lots of room for improvement.
