Very famous restaurant in Lisbon that is very well justified. The food and service at this restaurant are one of the best. Staff is attentive and friendly, the owner usually walks around and even chats with some of the clients. It is but a cheap restaurant, but it is also not a gourmet experience (portion wise). The food is delicious and it serves traditional Portuguese food and fresh seafood. It is one of my favorite restaurants in Lisbon and I definitely recommend a visit if you are in the city. The atmosphere of the restaurant is also very good. A lot of famous portuguese people come to this place as well (not the reason to come here, but just a fyi). You can see the photos on the walls. The restaurant was also recently renovated (in 2021). Just a side but, in case you are not aware, please note that the cheese and meat platter, butter, olives and bread that are already on the table when you sit are not for free. In case you don't want them, just inform the waiter. Overall excellent restaurant! Recommended!!

Unfortunately, a negative experience: 1. A large crowd of people with reservations was stuck at the entrance. It was completely unclear and unsystematic who was getting in and when. 2. Despite making a very early reservation, we were seated at a table right next to the entrance to the dishwashing area. 3. The service was very, very, very slow. Sometimes it took 15 minutes for a waiter to come by. It's not the waiters' fault but the large number of guests. 4. The appetizer plate was somewhat carelessly arranged. The bread was warm and delicious. The ham was also tasty. 5. It took almost 30 minutes for our order to be taken. 6. The appetizers were good. 7. The wine was good, but unfortunately, they brought us the wrong wine without consulting us. 8. Due to the tables being so close together, it can get very loud and uncomfortable if you have the wrong neighbors. Not a good atmosphere. The waiters had to squeeze between the tables. 9. Among the main courses, the steak was good but the side dish was somewhat hard and dry. The other dish arrived cold! When I complained, it was taken away without a word. We had no idea what was happening next. Since no one took care of us further, we asked for the bill. After about 20 minutes, the faulty dish suddenly arrived, freshly prepared, but without an apology. Since everyone else had already finished, I didn’t want to sit and eat alone. 10. We asked for the bill, which again took a long time. We left quite disappointed.

We had a reservation and showed up only to find a large crowd outside (please see picture below), even though it was empty on the inside. This restaurant is supposed to be reservations only. After asking others waiting outside, it was clear that most people did have reservations. Either the restaurant was mismanaging the seating process or they purposefully wanted to create an impression of demand even though they had plenty of availability for reservations on the same day. They also had three people at the door; a bouncer, who was not managing the queue and allowed people to push through or jump places, a person with a clipboard who supposedly checked reservations and was telling people to randomly move from one side to the other, and the maitre de checking people in. When challenged about the mess at the door, the lady with the clipboard said that everyone has to queue. When I asked to cancel the reservation and not be charged the no show fee (the reservation was guaranteed by a credit card) she said that she would “put in a request.” I had to speak to the maitre de to cancel my reservation. Many reviews here point to it being a tourist trap and it did feel like one. We did not get to try the food but many reviewers claim that they had food poisoning after dining there. Best to avoid.

Update 2nd visit Terrible service. they lost our take away food. We didn’t eat much appetizer which is two kinds of bread, olives, two kinds of butter, prosciutto and salami, two types of cheese. It was a lot of food and cost around 30€. We told the waiter “take away” and after one hour when we want to check, waiter said he can’t find our food. We waited more than 25 minutes for that but unfortunately they didn’t take a responsibly….very very disappointed. If you need to take away anything from this busy restaurant i recommend it to tell them bring it right away and remember the waiter!! //1st time// Octopus was best in Lisbon. I had a lots of octopus before but this is best!! Really good!! Seafood risotto was good but too salty, bread, butter, olives, cheese, prosciutto are all perfect!! Overall very good restaurant. Very spacious and clean. Unfortunately we told waiter about check but they were super slow. After we waited 25 minutes and we had to call waiter 4 times for the check. So we didn’t left any tips. I know Portugal don’t need tips but if the service was wonderful we still like to leave some.

This place was a huge disappointment. I went with my wife there specially to try out their Crab dish. Asking for a 1-1.2 kg size crab but was told smallest available was a 2 kgs crab. We agreed as we were really looking forward to savour the crab at this place which was recommended by our hotel concierge. We had tasted crab and seafood at other restaurants few days ago and was satisfying. To our shock and disappointment, the 2 kgs crab was served with meat shredded out and placed on the shell. I complained about this but was coolly told by the waiter that this is the better way they serve crab.. so customers do not have to mess up. The waiter should inform us about how crab is been served before we order.. not after. We order whole crab.. not crab meat ( which can be bought as canned crab meat from supermarket). The crab tasted plain and awful. We left the place without even finish the dish. Our experience was bad although the place is well renovated and decorated with several photos of celebrities on the wall.

Waited till the end of my 2 week trip in Portugal to post this, as I wanted to have a better experience of the food spectrum to give an objective review. After reading the other reviews, I was very much looking forward to my first dinner on arrival. I was very puzzled: - Not fine dining but with fine dining prices - Reservations online require a deposit per person, asked a local friend to call and no deposit needed. Showed up and there was a bouncer at the door and people with no reservations desperate to get in - Inside was fully packed, slightly chaotic - Our wait staff made us wait for a while before service. Staff are perhaps encouraged to have a sense of humor but come across as pompous - Signature black rice to salty (they were nice about it and took it back without charge) and everything else was very meh (croquettes, lobster and prawn rice, pork and fish) Perhaps this is a Lisbon institution for the experience, but to me it is the definition of a tourist trap… overrated and underwhelming :(
