What an exceptional restaurant and a wonderful addition to Melrose Arch. Make no mistake, this is not your regular mediocre "hotel restaurant". Their passion for food is clear in the execution of every dish. We arrived on a Friday night without a reservation fearing that we would be turned away as the restaurant was extremely busy. But instead, we were welcomed by a very helpful and accommodating manager, Simba, who asked that we wait at the bar while he made a plan to accommodate us. We didn't wait long for a table to be arranged, and were handed over to our wonder waitress Tiny. She was excellent and attentive. Shortly after being seated we were served complimentary South African braai bread (rosterkoek) and a cup of gazpacho which were both delicious. Following this, Tiny, explained the menu and shared the specials of the day which all sounded incredible and made selecting a meal even more difficult. We landed up ordering theee starters because we couldn't decide. We landed on the Tuna Tataki, Crispy Tuna and Heirloom Tomato which were all fantastic! For main course it was easy, we ordered the grilled prawns. They were plain-grilled and served with homemade peri peri sauce, salsa verde and lemon butter. I am still dreaming about these. They were sweet, juicy and expertly cooked. We also ordered their Sicilian Broccoli which was flame-grilled and moreish. For dessert (we ate it too quickly so no photos here🥹) we ordered the chocolate pudding which was perfection. All in all, the food is impeccable and the service is second to none. I have been back twice since my first visit.

Sebule presents itself as an upscale dining experience, yet my recent team dinner left me with mixed impressions. The evening began with a well-executed miniature soup, accompanied by fresh bread—pleasant, though not particularly memorable. The highlight of the starters was the crisp-fried baby calamari, which had a delightful crunch and was elevated by a vibrant green sauce and thinly sliced radish. However, before I could fully savor the dish, an overzealous server whisked away my plate without so much as a courtesy check—an oversight that significantly impacted the experience. For the main course, a 100g–150g fillet arrived, cooked well but rather diminutive in portion. The pepper sauce leaned aggressively toward the spicy side, slightly overpowering the delicate flavors of the meat. The accompanying baby potatoes were well-prepared but did little to elevate the dish. The non-alcoholic cocktails were serviceable at best, lacking the balance and refinement one would expect from a restaurant of this caliber. They felt like an afterthought rather than a well-crafted addition to the meal. Dessert brought a cheesecake adorned with seasonal fruit, a satisfying but predictable conclusion to the meal. It was well-executed but not particularly inventive. Service, while efficient, lacked the attentiveness and finesse required in fine dining. Clearing plates before diners have finished is a fundamental misstep that disrupts the rhythm of the meal. While Sebule has potential, a stronger focus on portion balance, flavor harmony, and polished service would elevate the experience.

Enjoyed a Beautiful gourmet dining experience at Sebule in December 2023. The restaurant is inside the African Pride Hotel in Melrose Arch. This establishment should be counted amongst the top Epicurean destinations in Johannesburg. As a high end restaurant expect wonderful service from the staff who are always around without being obtrusive. The decor, table settings, crockery are all very beautiful. Coming to the food. We enjoyed a three course meal. The quality, presentation and taste of every dish was amazing. Flavours were well balanced with dishes being spicy flavourful. The flavour profiles are what most South Africans would be very familiar with. For dessert they have a small but very delectable selection. Highly recommended for an intimate dining experience.

We recently enjoyed a fantastic corporate team dinner at Sebule Grill and Cellar, and the experience was nothing short of excellent. Our evening began with a delicious starter of calamari which was light, tender, and full of flavour — the perfect way to kick off the meal. For mains, we had succulent steak paired with a rich pepper sauce that was cooked to perfection and left everyone impressed. To end on a sweet note, we indulged in a classic cheesecake, which was creamy, smooth, and beautifully presented.

The value was spot-on for the quality and portions we received. Everything felt carefully prepared, and the meal was both satisfying and refined. The service was attentive and professional. Despite being a large group, our waiter handled the table efficiently, kept the flow going effortlessly, and made sure everyone felt looked after throughout the night. The ambience at Sebule Grill and Cellar, is warm, welcoming. The open grill added a vibrant energy to the space, while the décor struck a perfect balance between casual comfort and upscale dining.

Overall, Sebule Grill and Cellar, delivered an outstanding experience — from the food to the service to the setting. It was a memorable evening for our team, and we highly recommend it for corporate gatherings or...
