We LOVED this hotel. As first-timers to Zermatt we thought this might be a good location… and after being here for a week I’m shocked we were able to find a place so perfectly situated.
You’re 2min walking to the cogwheel train (basically the ‘lift’) to the Gornergrat mountain/ski area; that station is also a stop on all the local bus lines (you’ll take these to get to the further ski area starting points).
You’re a 6 min walk to the Sunnegga ski area starting point.
You’re a 3 min walk from the Zermatt train station to get in and leave town.
You’re a 5 min walk to the dead center of town.
In addition to the fabulous location, every room here has a view of the Matterhorn.
And to top all that off, the couple who runs this hotel is absolutely lovely. I accidentally tripped the breaker in our room (my fault entirely) and as I was telling the woman at the front desk that I had no power, her husband overheard and was already putting on his coat to fix it. It was fixed in 5 minutes flat with a giant smile.
If you’re on the edge, do it. You...
Read moreThis is very near the train station so I did not have to drag my luggage very far. However due to some roadworks the path to the hotel was not so clear. Still it was not that difficult to get to. The gentlemen on the first day was welcoming and helpful but did not speak very much English. Luckily I speak some Spanish. He helped me to my room even though there was an elevator. The room was clean and adequate size. The bed was comfortable. Lighting was adequate. There was a kettle and tea and even a fridge. The tv had English channels. The bathroom had a tub and heater. The heater worked the first night but subsequently did not work. Another lady staff on the second day came to my room when I complained about the heater not working. She put her hand to the heater and declared it was warm. Did she think I cannot feel that it was stone cold or is her hand not feeling the cold? Or maybe she just want to dismiss the issue for whatever reason. The room also had a heater but I did not use it. Still it was a good stay. Breakfast had variety...
Read moreThis hotel is modest, but comfortable, located less than 100m from the train station - turn left out of the main exit from the station, then right where a small sign on the right hand side of the road, indicates the Sarazena Hotel and walk down the alley way. |Our room was on the ground floor and had a 'balcony area' to sit out on, but it was also opposite the station used for the train to Gornergrat. Fortunately, trains don't run too early or too late. The room was large, with a desk and chair and two armchairs and a coffee table, as well as plenty of room to put suitcases out of the way. The bathroom was functional, with a shower/bath and excellent water pressure.|In the hotel, there is a lounge/bar area, but no restaurant. The breakfast room provided a simple, but sufficient breakfast of cold options. |Staff were very friendly and very helpful. Friends in Australia had contacted the hotel to advise that it was my birthday and the hotel arranged a birthday card with a message and some chocolates. A lovely...
