I had the pleasure of finding and experiencing Dupont Brasserie during a recent stay in Zürich. In fact, it was so enjoyable, I visited multiple times!
The restaurant is spacious, with high ceilings and a vibrant color scheme. Even though it is spacious, it has a warm, inviting and cozy atmosphere. It just felt right to me.
While I sat at the bar I was treated to the friendly, expert service from bartenders Daniel (Dani) and Kai. Daniel made a fantastically smooth old fashioned for me on the first night, while Kai created a palate-pleasing signature Cuban Winter on a different night. Daniel made the time to offer many recommendations, and conversations with him made me feel like I had been coming to Dupont for years. Thanks Dani! Actually, several members of the waitstaff, who I spoke to, were friendly and sociable.
I enjoyed several food items from the French onion soup, and the roasted beet salad, to my favorite, Zürich-style veal cutlets mit rösti-- delicious comfort food for a cold night.
If you dine at Dupont on a Wednesday night, you will be entertained by live piano music from their talented pianist, Tony. Tony's playing really adds an extra level of sophistication and fun to the whole dining experience. I think they should have him play piano more nights of the week.
I will certainly visit Dupont more times...
Read moreDuring our recent visit to Zurich, we had the pleasure of dining at DuPont Brasserie and Bar in the old town area. This large restaurant offers a diverse menu with a great selection of dishes.
We appreciated the choice between outside and inside seating, with open windows enhancing the ambiance. The service was impeccable, with the manager checking on us multiple times throughout the evening, ensuring everything was to our satisfaction.
The P-star martini and Moscow mule were both delicious and perfectly crafted. For our meal, we started with the tuna tartare, french onion soup and shrimp cocktail which were fresh and flavorful. The white fish of the day was cooked to perfection, and the pizza was equally satisfying. However, the highlight was undoubtedly the tiramisu. Its unusual presentation added a delightful twist to this classic dessert.
While the prices are on the higher side, the quality of the food and service, along with the convenient location close to the main train station, make it worth the splurge. Overall, DuPont provides an excellent dining experience that we...
Read moreThis place doesn’t know what it wants to be. Is it a pizzeria? Is it a techno club? Is it haute cuisine? Is it fancy? Is it casual? Is it a bastion for food? Or, most likely, just a simple restaurant with a great location and high prices?
I had a unrushed meal at 7 PM on a Saturday evening. They had a DJ playing loud techno music throughout the duration. The menu was undistinguishable. Everything from pizza, calzones, carved roast beef, German/Swiss standards, and expensive entrees. A broad culinary offering, but master of none. The random number of people waiting on me numbered no less than five. None of those five seemed to have sole responsibility or management of my service. Weird.
If you really like this place, I suggest you go quickly. It definitely will not be there 18 months from now. Management would be well served by exploiting their one clear advantage: location. They should simplify the menu and focus their service with a clearly designated line of hierarchy and responsibility. The result will be a better eating experience for all...
