Emir Hotel — Hotel in Fatih

DO NOT BOOK HERE|We booked to stay here for our Istanbul trip. Literally the night before we were arriving, we were contacted by the hotel that they had OVERBOOKED THEMSELVES and could no longer accommodate us. Our booking was cancelled and we were forced to find another hotel at a more expensive price given the extremely short notice. There was absolutely no issue with the booking from our side, which had been both confirmed and also paid for several weeks in advance. It was simply shambolic and complete incompetence from the hotel that they not only overbooked but didn't advise us until less than 24 hours before check-in that we couldn't be accommodated. They even sent us a message asking about our expected check-in time just 20 minutes before they cancelled our reservation. I have booked many times through booking.com and never had a bad experience except with this hotel. I would ABSOLUTELY AVOID BOOKING THIS HOTEL unless you enjoy stressing about where you are going to sleep the night before you arrive...

very good location (5 min walk to Sultan Ahmet), beautiful view from the third floor. They clean the room almost everyday. There is no washing machine in the hotel, Wi-Fi  was good enough, the Staff was friendly and helpful. The building is very old and not insulated at all, so it will be very cold and very warm easily, i did not expect this cold weather in Istanbul in may, the room at the third floor was very cold at night, the heating radiator was not working -maybe because we are in May- the air conditiong was good enough to heat the room, but i do not recommend to turn it on. Most of the days there were no hot water to shower, you have to ask for it at the office and they will take care of it and you will have a cosy littel shower up...

This is ok for a bed and shower in a prime location of sultanahmet. The rooms have clearly been refurbished recently but are fitted out in a real spartan way. There was not even a chair to lay your clothes on. The shower is ok but the bathroom tiny. There is a safe locker. Service is minimal, clean towels but room not cleaned in 3 days. There is no common area and no breakfast. Receptionists are friendly and speak good english. As a hostel i would rate this 4-5 but they market themselves as a hotel and that's too much honour. Neighbourhood is very nice. Go in the opposite direction of blue mosque (towards kumkapi) and you'll find plenty cafes, restaurants and shops that are not so touristy.
