I gave this place and average rating becuase thats what it is average, at best. First of all is has a great locale, right on the river and its a real close walk to the main part of town. The spaces have above average trees and coverag between which is a plus for me. This campground reminds me alot of Byers lake, and at Byers lake they did a make over and took out over 300 trees this year, this place needs the same. Too many cotton woods, if they took them out they would get less bugs, more light and no cotton weed blowing every wear and the sap that goes with it. This camp ground had TONS of families wth ittle kids which I loves the eneergy from. What I did not care for was all of the kids who were turned loose to drive laps in Motorized vehicles in the campground. To be blunt this IS a campground for motor heads and if peac and quiet is your thing look elsewhere. Mind you the parenting is beyond the control of the staff, but there is no law and order here or posted rules that I coul see. The picnci tables are brand spankig new and being made daily, there really nice. But that is the extent of amenities, No fire pits? No out houses or porta pottys that I saw. Its basically a place to park and sleep, what tent people did is beyond me. The staff were the strong point...
Read moreThis appears to be a concessionaire operated campground on either city or state land. The campground has about 50 sites that are split between open, sunny, and hot sites on the banks of the Talkeetna River and sites that are well treed and shaded by Aspen, Birch, and Black Poplar trees. This is a rough hewn campground and minimal effort has been put into creating or maintaining the sites. Some are nice and level, some are rutted and difficult to use. Amenities are limited to fire rings, picnic tables, and some poorly maintained outhouses. Camping is $25 per night with no power or water. There are no assigned/reserved sites, you pay your money and pick your site. The users get minimal direction from the concessionaire and it can be quite noisy at night on weekends- generators, partiers, ATVs and traffic. The public boat ramp is adjacent to the campground, $25 to launch and $5 daily to park boat trailer and rig. The concessionaire offers showers, ice, & firewood. ||It's a shame, with a little effort this could be a very nice campground. It's a beautiful site, fronting on the river and is walking distance to downtown via a footpath out of the southwest end of the campground. Holidays and weekends are doubtless the...
Read moreThis is a very basic, no frills, no services CG so come with low expectations. That being said, staff was friendly and courteous. Some sites are deep in woods would probably be overrun with mosquitoes. We found a site closer to the road that goes along the river, that was long enough for our 36 ft TT and on higher ground with nice Pavillion over a quite new picnic table and were pleasantly surprised. There are no site #s and all are on FCFS basis. Roads in CG are filled with potholes and some mud and mud puddles so be aware. No noise issues noted. This is total dry camping so come prepared. Short 5 to 10 min walk into center of town. Town is adorable, funky and fun. Wr ate at Denali Brew Pub in downtown outside on their deck. Fish n chips with sweet potatoe wedges was very good. Wait staff was friendly and attentive. Nagleys store had decent basic food supplies. Kerry butter was same price as we paid in lower 48 so Bravo to them! Enjoyed some Friday night live music at the town park. Shops are nice, several restaurant options and great food trucks dot the downtown. We loved staying here!
PS the Spinach bread from the Airstream food truck is...
