As an Alaskan local, I'm bummed out to write a mid tier review for this place. When you live here, you are familiar with how most pricing is and understand upselling in your area. So when you see prices much higher than the value of certain items, it feels a bit scammy. My parents and I stopped in yesterday for dinner. The style of the place is super cool and gives you that alaskan rustic feel. I felt like some of the staff could have been a bit friendlier. They werent rude or anything, the counter gal had just enough politeness to slip by the cut off line, but she also came off like she wouldn't care if you walked out the doors without your food. She seemed like she didn't want to be there and just wanted you to leave her alone. Maybe my impression is wrong, but that's how it came off. Not my biggest issue though, the pizzas were priced pretty decently the same as other cities in Alaska so I didn't have a problem with that, what was an issue for me was I asked for no onions on my pizza and to add olives instead and they charged me an extra $3.50 for a very sparingly toss of olives. I'd think it would be a sub added topping. Not even a somewhat decent amount for the price, olives are not an expensive topping. My dad did a build your own and added pepperoni and tomato and was charged $3.50 for each of those as well, pepperoni and tomato being a basic non expensive topping. That means his build your own, just sauce and cheese was at a base price of $17. Crazy. The worst part about that is the counter girl didn't make us aware the upcharge of any of that. Just rang it in and we didn't see until after we paid. The tomato slices were extremely thin, the pizzas were just very mediocre and not amazing for the price of everything. It would be way more excusable if the food was really good, but it was just bland. Just not a great experience. I think the owner should take the reviews seriously, especially from alaslan locals on how to be better so they can stand out more during tourist season. Try to be a little more considerate of how you price items and have your staff be more transparent about what people are ordering and friendlier for better...
Read moreSo, I am not a "write a review" person, but after yesterday I'll be that person. As Alaska locals we have visited Talkeetna frequently. Decided to walk to grab a nice pizza for dinner and a drink. As soon as we walked in it seemed know one knew who was taking the order in between two staff. I thought, well maybe it was a long day. They gave my husband the wrong beer, and said "Our staff will drink it later", and then gave me the wrong drink as well. I actually didn't get upset, all was good, and I tipped them 18 percent on our bill which was $23. Well wish I didn't, since we sat down and waited an hour, without a single person stating my name for the order. To add, the waitress was cleaning the tables right next to us, like, RIGHT next to us. Wiping crumbs on our kids legs. We ignored it, but I found it incredibly rude, as if it was a please leave already moment. I get closing, and having hard days, but all around it was simply the attitude of the two waitresses that absolutely stunk. If you hate your job, or cannot handle the stress please find another. The locals will be less upset, but man, if that's how you treat guests of Alaska, tsk tsk. When I finally asked my husband to inquire about our order I overheard one waitress tell him, "I can't keep up with everyone's order" to which he replied, "No one even called our name. And her reply, "You could be less rude". Ma'am, we sat, and sat quietly, enthralled with Wendel the almost mayor, our two kids and enjoyed the atmosphere, it wasn't until we noticed several people that ordered after us left. Even then, we walked away, not saying a thing. With cold pizza that stuck to the cardboard because it sat so long and crust that was simply hard as a rock. Happy Mother's Day I guess, but it was a HUGE disappointment. Good thing I didn't go for the fiddlehead special, probably would have ended worse than it did. I saw the owner walk away with Wendell and for a second I almost stopped to talk about it with him, but decided to let him enjoy the weather. Please do better with your wait staff and intake. Just because you can doesn't mean you should take advantage of...
Read moreFirst we sat down at misplaced and dirty tables when the waiter (rudely) have us our menus. A few minutes later he had us move over so he could spray the table then wipe the crumbs onto the seats next to us. In detail, the tables were mainly wooden (which suits the Alaska atmosphere) with mismatched Wooden benches and stools. After we ordered we had a somewhat long wait, but it was usual for a restaurant, although it wasn’t too busy. Then we got our food. We ordered 3 pizzas. All with gluten free crust. As we were regulars with gluten free pizza, we could tell as soon as we got it it wouldn’t be that good. It didn’t taste hat good, and throughout the entire meal we got constant rude service from a waiter named Benjamin. We will most likely not go there again. Not because it’s far from our home (which it is), but because it made our little trip up north from anchorage less enjoyable. Would...
