Common Area Cleanliness: Looked fine to me except for the elevator which needed a good vacuuming. Breakfast area was very clean.||Room Cleanliness: They got the big stuff right: Bed, towels, all horizontal surfaces were very clean. Some misses: 1) Toilet bowl interior was soiled when we arrived - we notified the front desk and this was promptly addressed. 2) Windows interior side were dirty near bottom. 3) TV surface was streaked.||Other Room Positives: Bed and pillow were very comfortable. A/C worked excellently in July. The room was a little larger than I expected, and the bathroom was certainly larger than I expected. Microwave, fridge, hair dryer functioned as expected (didn't try coffee maker). TV/cable channels were consistent with 3-star hotels generally - however, one morning most stations had a "signal unavailable" message.||Other Room Negatives: Wi-fi connection wasn't difficult, but it was counter-intuitive, even for me who works in IT, and I had to ask the front desk to spell it out step-by-step. Room phone didn't work, which is typically a non-issue in the cell phone age except that I tried to call the front desk about the wi-fi. The desk chair had adjustable seat height but soon returned to its lowest available level.||Noise: The hotel is too far south of I-69 to hear it. Our room faced Indiana 109. From within the room near the window we could hear vehicle traffic on 109, although for the most part it was muted and tolerable. From within our room we did not hear other guests.||Friendliness: Ladies at the front desk were helpful and fun to talk with. The two ladies who made breakfast were lighthearted and seemed serious about their jobs.||Ambiance: Looks like a lot of this hotel was remodeled a few years ago. Ambiance strikes me as unexceptional but attractive. I saw nothing that is off-putting or dated.||Complimentary Breakfast: Typical for 3-star hotel - omelets (sort of), scrambled eggs, pancake machine, milk, bagels, cereal, yogurt and so on. Wifey said that coffee was OK but not better. | |Ice: There is an ice machine on the first floor near the front desk. In addition, my wife found an ice machine on our floor in what seems to be a supply room. To find the ice machine on this floor, a guest would need to determine that he should walk into this room, past supplies and the floor's electrical service panel to find it. This strikes me as odd but minor.||Other amenities: We did not investigate the pool, office, or exercise room.||Price/value: We booked directly with the hotel. We paid less than what the area's two competing 3-star hotels wanted. Your mileage may vary.||Summary: We regard the several bumps we experienced as relatively minor. In our 2-night visit, the positives outweighed the few negatives, and we are satisfied guests. We can...
Read moreWas in town for a family reunion. I did not choose this hotel and I will never stay here again. Location is good. Shopping and restaurants are available and easy access to the interstate.
During check in at 4:30 pm on a Friday afternoon, the line at the makeshift check in table was extremely long because there was only one worker. She apologized for the delay, saying the other person called in off that day so it was her alone. While I was waiting, I spotted a roach crawling on the curtain in the lobby. The place is being renovated, so I'm thinking several crawly things may be spotted. In any case, I was on high alert. Thankfully I didn't see any in my room.
Upon returning from a long day, I was unable to get into my room because the room key had been deactivated. This also happened to all the other family members I was with and I noticed other guests had the same issue. This happened each night I stayed. The desk clerk passed it off saying they get demagnitized in pockets or purses, but this was not the case. The clerks definitely had an attitude when replacing my cards. I don't know why because it was me who was I conveniensed each night.
I did not eat breakfast at the hotel. After seeing a roach, I did not feel comfortable taking any food.
I don't know what the maid staff does in the rooms everyday. Nothing is wiped clean, the shower did not drain, the floors are not swept and I, along with some of my family members, did not get replacement clean towels. Wow! I can't believe that in this time of heightened awareness of cleanliness, the Holiday Inn Express does not put forth the effort to make sure these rooms are cleaned well on a daily basis.
As I write this review, I hear street noise from the windows as if I were outside and noise from the hallway and adjoining rooms. No privacy in this place at all.
Definitely not an enjoyable experience. I will find another place to stay when I'm back in this area. The $165 price is definitely extreme for what you get. Not worth it at all. The Holiday Inn and Express brand is no longer a brand I can trust. The price for the terrible quality and service is...
Read moreIn my 40 plus years of travel to 45 countries, including third world countries, I have never encountered a more terrible hotel stay. I had reserved a double queen bed room for myself and my 83 year old father. We have stayed at this property a couple of times over the years with no complaint. When we arrived after attending the harness races in Anderson, the young man working behind the desk, who obviously has not had any training in hospitality (not his fault), said the hotel had no two-bed rooms available. All other hotels were sold out in the area and we couldn’t drive any further as it was rather late in the evening. The young man informed me that the available room has a pull out sofa. I figured that’s fine, no trouble. The young man asked me if I wanted a blanket and pillows and I said just some sheets will be fine since I bring my own pillow. All he brought me was a mattress pad. I tried to make it work because the room had no air-conditioning to effectively cool the room. It was so hot in the room, I didn’t think being without sheets would be a problem. However, the pull-out bed was a problem. The bed frame had very sharp edges that you can easily contact when you get in and out of the pull-out. Among many other things, including a property that only had only one worker (again not the young mans fault), there was no breakfast and there was trash all over the place outside because no one was there to take the garbage out. The parking lot was also in disarray. As you can probably tell by now I am a patient person. But there was one event that really put me over the edge. When I went to the restroom at 3:30 in the morning, the toilet seat fell completely off the toilet. Thank God it was me and not my rather frail father. I understand Covid has affected the operation of many hotels, but this property should not have been opened until there was enough staff to run the hotel. To sum up, I had no sleep because I had no sheet on the bed. While I am exhausted, I am very fortunate that I was not injured by the sharp bed frame or while trying to...
