So Ive been staying at the Ashland Commons for about two weeks now, and I have to say they really came in clutch, they never fail to be super friendly and respectful, the rooms are really spacious and they do an excellent job at keeping it clean, and the other people staying here are also super chill and friendly. My overall experience with this place has been really positive. When I first came here I had issues with my payment and banking, the money came out of my account and they didn't receive it. It took over a day to solve it and instead of just kicking me out they worked with me and helped me resolve the issue. I can't think of many places that would do that to be honest. And while I'm staying here I currently don't have a residence, and I signed up for a program that helps people in my situation, but I had to get verification that I am currently homeless. They sent an email to the organization I was trying to join explaining my experience and that was really helpful. I get the feeling that instead of seeing people just as dollar signs and customers, they see people as ACTUAL people and treat them as such. They genuinely care about the people they come across and in my experience that's not something you see very often. Also the building itself is really pretty. The entire building is covered in really cool art. I was honestly blown away by it when I first saw it. And the location of the Ashland Commons is also very conveniently located. I don't have a car so I have to walk everywhere or take the bus, and the bus stop is really close by. And downtown is only like a 15 minute walk. Also it has an amazing view of the mountains. Tbh I don't know what I would have done...
Read moreAt 4 am someone wanted to ignore the quite hours, 11pm-7am and make breakfast. No problem. It is however a problem when said person is slamming doors, slamming cabinets and swearing to themselves as they make their breakfast. If you are not awoken by doors slamming, plates, smashing and someone swearing to themselves at four in the morning you'll be able to sleep. I wish I had been able to sleep, three nights getting four hours of sleep is unfortunately not enough for me. It was a bit stressful to received a phone call at work that I needed to come back and pick up the overnight toiletries bag and pajamas I left on my bed, under my pillow. It seems there was some confusion and the person who called did not realize I was staying 3 nights. I recommend reiterating your lenght of stay upon arrival to avoid any confusion and it wouldn't hurt to take everything with you when you...
Read moreKim, the owner is just magical. She's really helped to keep this space warm, welcoming and wonderful. The kitchen has EVERYTHING from a blender to cupboard filled with food items that have been left over by other hostel visitors.
In my room I have been given a huge bed and my own closet space for me to hang my clothing (which is not guaranteed for you if you stay here but is unheard of in the world of hostels).
The one warning I have for you is that this hostel allows small children and families with children to stay here. There was a screaming one year old baby here for 2-3 days and this was quite unpleasant for everyone in the hostel.
Even with this, I am so incredibly happy with this hostel. It is the best one I've experienced in the world thus far when it comes to price, amenities and spaciousness.
Definitely will stay here again if (when) I...
