We recently stayed at the Thornhedge for a long weekend and had a wonderful stay. The location is excellent, a very short walk to downtown Bar Harbor, and only a few minute ride to Acadia National Park. The Inn was clean, well taken care of and very ornate. Our room, Corfield, was clean, though there were a few stops on the rug, the bathroom was small but large enough for a single person to get ready in the morning. The fan, AC, WIFI, and TV all worked well. Because of covid they provided a grab and go breakfast which you could make your selections each morning. The food was excellent, and ready when it was supposed to be. I had the breakfast burrito and I would highly recommend it. The Inn keepers were excellent, friendly and helpful. We had some leftovers and drinks we wanted to keep cool, they provide access to a refrigerator for the use. In fact they had freezer packs that they lent us to use for a sunset cruise. The innkeepers also provided lots of free advise for dinner, directions and general knowledge of the area. Between the location, the breakfast and the service I would definitely stay at the Thornhedge again. One recommendation I would have is to promote the history of the Inn. The Inn is beautiful and I am sure most guests would love to hear it's history. I asked about the history of the Inn and got a...
Read moreTraveling to Maine for other reasons, I decided to add three days of Acadia to the trip. There are a LOT of inns on the island, with various amenities and booking systems, so it takes some patience to find what you are looking for. I found it at Thornhedge. My room was well thought out and spacious, with daily cleaning. Breakfast was very good, and the inn is designed to allow lots of interaction among the guests, sharing plans and reports of days in the park. It's a very short walk to the bus stop into the park or to a huge range of restaurants.
Most of that is probably true of any number of Bar Harbor inns. What set this one apart was the owner. Andy is a native and knows the island very well. His family has a long history in the business, too. All three mornings, he helped me refine my hike/bike plans for the day and, honestly, saved me a lot of pain while getting the most of my short time there.
You can't go wrong with Thornhedge, and I expect that's true of the family's other nearby properties. Acadia is amazing, and coming back each afternoon to a comfortable, welcoming home base made it...
Read moreWonderful experience here! The location is right in the heart of Bar Harbor, walkable to all the attractions, shops and restaurants. The inn itself is charming. While the rooms are a little dated, they're clean and well kept and the common areas in the main part of the house more than make up for it. There's a parlor room where they do a wine and cheese reception every evening at five. There's also a game area and part of the kitchen reserved for guest food (should you want to store packed lunch for a hike) a nice touch! Also, the breakfasts, you can tell, have a lot of thought put into them. There's self-catered coffee and tea every morning along with freshly baked muffins. Then there's usually some kind of special treat (a parfait of some sort) before the hot breakfast is served. Andy, the inn keeper, is a delightful host and will share suggestions about what to do in the area. Love that the shuttles are close by and will take you where ever you to the trailheads and other points of interest throughout the park. Andy is a great resource for this and other...
