We stayed at the hotel from Aug 10th to Aug 14th. The facilities of this hotel is old and outdated. Air circulation inside the room is bad. There is an air conditioner you can turn on to let the air flow better, but it's quite noisy and you ended up either with sleeping with a big noise or wake up feeling suffocated. But you only get for what you pay. Given the price of the room, we won't give them 1 star.
The real reason for the 1 star is for the poor management of an accident during our stay.
On Aug 13th 3am, the fire alarm went off. We were scared out of the bed and called the front desk, someone picked up the phone and answered "We are working on it" and then hung up. So we thought, alright, it was probably not a big deal. So we waited for a few minutes, and the fire alarm indeed stopped. Then we went back to sleep and tried to calm ourselves down.
After a few minutes, the fire alarm went off crazy. Previously, it was just on and off intermittently, This time, it was a continuous loud sound. We called the front desk, no one answered. Then we look out of the window, there were many policies and fire trucks outside, and people are going out of the hotel consistently. So we were really scared this time and rushed out of room and got out of the hotel.
After we got out, we found other people were just as confused as we did. The police seems to be at ease. There didn't seem to be a fire or anything like that. We stayed outside in the chilly night for about twenty minutes. Finally, people started going back to the hotel and we heard the police saying it was just a false alarm.
After all these, we got back to our bed about 4am, and couldn't fall asleep. My wife is in her 5th month of pregnancy, she started to feel some abnormal movements of the baby and was scared and worried all night long. This totally ruined our next days plan.
The next day, there was no announcement of what happened that night, no apologies in any form either. By the time we checked out, they just printed out the bill and wished us a good day like nothing had happened during our stay. I had to mentioned that we were there the night the fire alarm went off and were too scared to fall sleep again that night...The receptionist replied immediately "Oh, it was a kid pulling off the alarm, thought it was fun...it was unfortunate...yeah, I'm sorry, it was unfortunate..." and then turned away from us to get something. I guess she was probably hoping we just leave and don't give them any trouble. We didn't want to embarrass all of us and just...
Read moreI stayed here several nights during a business trip. I've read mixed reviews about this hotel but decided to stay here anyway.
The room I had looked clean and spacious. (Apparently, some rooms have been renovated, and this was probably one of those.)
The lighting in the room was inadequate: the lights came from 2 bed-side lamps, one standing lamp, and one desk lamp. I found it difficult to read in the room. The bathroom and wash area was at least twice as bright as the rest of the room. There wasn't any central control switch, so I had to go to each lamp and switch them on individually; likewise, when switching them off.
The bed was comfortable, and the pillows were firm enough for me. The wardrobe provided enough storage space for all my stuff.
My room faced south and was away from the meeting rooms and the on-site restaurant. So it was very quiet at night, and I had an undisturbed sleep.
The wifi in the room worked well with adequate speed, and I did not experience any dropped signal.
There wasn't a safe in the room. I had to keep all my valuables in my luggage (including my computer and tablet) and locked it when I went out. This was rather inconvenient. While they do have safes at the reception, it's even more inconvenient. Safes should be a standard feature in every hotel room.
Breakfast was not included in the room charges, which was unfortunate. The on-site restaurant doesn't start operating until sometime in the afternoon. I had to get my breakfast either from Woods Coffee, which is attached to the hotel, or from other restaurants nearby. There are limited food selection at Woods (breakfast food, that is). However, they do open quite early in the morning (5 am on weekdays), which meant I could have my breakfast early.
The hotel is near several food places. If I want something quick and easy for lunch or dinner, I could get them from several fast-food restaurants, Whole Foods Market, or Uwajimaya which are within walking distance (5 to 10 minutes) from the hotel. There are also lots of restaurants nearby too, within 20 minutes' walking distance.
It seems, from the reviews, that whether you like the room or not depends on what room you get. If I were to stay here again, I'd ask for a renovated room away from all...

we were late in checking in over the long weekend and they gave us one of the oldest ugliest rooms on the street side of the hotel. Road noise, restaurant noise, and the dirtiest bathroom tub we had ever seen.
It was so gross neither one of us used the tub for even a shower, we didnt want to use it barefoot let alone go for a soak. Yuck.
This side of the hotel is noisy and our pup kept barking at the noise all night long. So we had to turn the tv up loudly which meant we didnt sleep.
We asked to move rooms when available and we were eventually able to move into a nicer room on a lower floor closer to the elevator for our pup to be able to get outside faster for his pees.
This hotel has a great pet fee of $25 per stay. Great! Except they have some of the worst pet policies i ve ever experienced in my life. One warning for a noisy pup and your pet is put out... and we experienced other pups barking which caused ours to respond.
They say there is a pet relief area around the building at the back of the property. What a sad joke of a space. The gate doesnt latch and its small and not cared for at all. At all.
we stayed in fear the entire time that our pup and his responses to a very noisy space would get us kicked out.
We see pics of a pool on the website we even packed swim suits to go in and use it. We had been looking forward to it.
We were never informed of where it was or when we could use it. And with such harsh pet policies we feared we couldnt leave him in the room to go use it.
We have numerous upcoming reservations for this hotel for events in the future but were cancelling them and staying elsewhere.
This hotel should not hold the coast hotel name it doesnt deliver on what that brand promises. Weve been to several coast hotel properties and all of them are far better then this place.
Spend your money elsewhere and let this place get rebranded as a less expensive classless option in a fancy neighbourhood
And for heavens sake stay away from the dirty stained...
