Let’s get into it. As a former participant of the BOEC’s AWI program, and an individual who utilizes a power wheelchair, the lodge is not truly accessible for all participants equally, nor is it fully ADA compliant.
For me, as a participant in their AWI program, I was either dependent on others assisting me in and out of the lodge due to the non compliance of the front door, and steepness to the road immediately outside. Inside I faced similar struggles and could not access their sunroom due to a lip in the threshold and furniture placement.
Their water jug where we were told to get our water was just a regular jug and not meant for anyone with limited hand function or even to pull up to an inaccessible kitchen counter to access it.
The lodge has stairs to go to the second level leaving that fully inaccessible for individuals in wheelchairs or who have limited mobility.
The bathroom I had access to had a shower chair that was broken, including the locks. This same shower chair was provided to me year after year, despite the safety hazards.
The BOEC needs to invest in accessibility, safety, and ADA compliance in the Lodge so individuals with all types of disabilities have safe, full and equal access to the facilities in and...
Read moreLectured by an employee for taking the most obvious and shortest walk to the lake with my 3 yo., up the driveway. "I don't know how many signs we have to put up?!", she says. The signs say PUBLIC TRAIL ACCESS, there are no signs directing the public away from walking up the paved drive. BTW, I have MS and the longer walk around I was directed to was not particularly easy for me. I think if the signs read PUBLIC LAKE ACCESS it would solve a lot of their problems. I apologize for walking on the paved road and not contributing to erosion on...
Read moreSpectacularly beautiful area and lodge, right by the reservoir. They had lots of activities available including, but not limited to hiking around good trails, kayaking, fishing, ropes course (with excellent safety protocols) and crafts. The staff were absolutely fantastic, kind, helpful and knowledgable. 100 % recommend if you have the...
