If you are looking for a quality stay, look elsewhere. Beaver Run falls short of basic 3-star hotel expectations in almost every metric.
Accommodations: the rooms are in desperate need of upgrades, repair and cleaning. I’m guessing this place was built in the 80s/90s and it shows. Old fixtures, popcorn ceiling, nasty carpet… most of these fixtures are probably original. The arm rest on one of the couches in the living area of our corporate suite was caved in with a large defect. All of the fabric on the sofas is gross, the carpets (esp near fireplace) are stained with soot and dirt, the floor heaters that run the bottom of the walls have probably not been cleaned in months/years. Cracked caulk, peeling paint, stains on walls and fixtures.
There is minimal ceiling lighting (if any) so most of the bedroom/common area lighting comes from lamps. However, several of the outlets do not work/lightbulbs are out/ or the entire lamp fixture is non-functional.
The ceilings are low, and this is coming from someone who is 5’4. I could almost touch the ceiling in our bathroom.
Security is a concern as the lock/latch to the sliding glass door to our ground level patio is broken. The security bar to the patio door is similarly broken. The sliding glass window latch is the master bedroom was also broken.
mattresses and pillows are ok minimal bedding is provided (no extra blankets) so be prepared to crank the heat up.
It takes FOREVER to get hot water! We called maintenance the first day and they found nothing. You literally have to run the water for 5 min to get hot water…so wasteful!
The elevator connecting pool area to the main building the the skywalk in bldg 4 was out the entire length of our stay (senior member suffered as a result). If someone were in a wheelchair/on crutches, it would be a major inconvenience.
Food: We ate at Spencer’s once for breakfast and honestly it was about the same quality as the nursing homes I work in (think shoney’s or another low end buffet chain restaurant) but they charge $23 per adult! Eggs are dry & powder-like, baked goods just “meh”, and sausage casing is so tough I couldn’t bite through it. Biscuits are dry and no amount of cream gravy mix will make them more palatable. Menu plates are better quality than buffet for sure but still way overpriced (~$16-20).
The pizza at the sky bridge cafe is good enough for young kids (comparable to Chuck E. Cheese quality) but adults would find it substandard. The yogurt parfaits in the refrigerated section are decent. My kids enjoyed the selection of chips and candy ($$$).
Service: We arrived early for check in and they were not able to accommodate us. We waited 4 hours for our room to become available.
They offer very minimal “housekeeping” during your stay. The most they will do is pickup towels and replace with new ones. We had to constantly request kitchen garbage bags, linens (the pullout sofa was bare) and toiletries. I would guess only 50% of the calls we placed to the front desk (no other phone direct dial lines to housekeeping, concierge, etc will pick up) for firewood, linens, garbage bags, etc were responded within 2 hours.
If you want luggage carts, you have to go search for them yourself in the multiple buildings, underground garages and lobbies.
Shuttle: Expect to wait… a lot. You now have to walk to your designated bldg lobby and request the shuttle from there & generally wait 20 min for pickup. Pickups from town similarly take 20 min (we had to wait the entire time at the shuttle stop in subzero temps so we didn’t miss it). Several times we gave up on the shuttle pickup and walked the ~0.75 mile back. One of the shuttles has minimal seating so during busy times you will be forced to stand (dangerous for our children and the senior in our group).
Overall impression: there is no way this place can justify their prices. Pay a bit more to stay at the newer resorts, much less chance for constant...
Read moreThis review is for feedback purposes based off the experience my fiancé and I had during his birthday. I want to say there are always going to be room for improvement. As a Forbes rated hotel employee for the Marriott grande lakes hotel I say this with love. The hotel is under construction. We stayed in building 2 which did have a smell of stale dog . I believe it was from the carpets not being deep cleaned. The smell of chlorine as you move from building 2-1 is so strong you can smell it from the outside. The room we stayed in the balcony was under construction we could not use. The smell of mold in the room was strong. I turned on the air purifier and a fan to deal with the smell. As for the photos below we did not use the whorl pool tub ( jetted tub) due to the dirt that came out of the jets when we were setting up for a relaxing bubble bath. The restaurant Spencers was very nice the staff was sweet but the stale smell from the floors and the bar was unbearable we took our food to go. We went for a spa day at the spa, prior to us arriving to the 1st building I greeted a staff member that I saw in the hall said good afternoon she never responded. When we finally arrived to the spa turns out that employee was our spa receptionist. We signed our wavers and when choosing our upgrades it seemed as if she was overwhelmed with scheduling and work. Camila my esthetician is a gem ! She is amazing I appreciate her so much. From start of my body scrub treatment to the end of my facial she truly made that experience amazing . Thank you Camila
Read moreMy family just stayed at Beaver Run Resort and we had a great experience. So many people leave negative feedback, I feel it’s important to leave POSITIVE kudos, too.
We traveled with a 4 month old, which, let’s face it, was an “experiment.” With the altitude, schlepping baby stuff from Florida and Texas, gathering and transferring 10 people from 3 different states, all arriving at different times….all made for a bit of lunacy (and tons of phone calls in advance to Beaver Run staff)!!
I wound up familiarizing myself with your super informative website and found out I could send a box in advance, and I did. It went so smoothly. I was able to have lots of creature comforts for the baby there in advance (diapers, swings, bathtub, formula, play mat, etc.) The night before we left, I packaged it all back up and dropped back off at the front desk for shipping back home. The box arrived yesterday. The process was beyond easy (and so helpful).
I was able (through your concierge) to secure reliable transfers through Gold Rush, secure a food order in advance for pick up on the way, and a courtesy stop on the way back to the airport (all door to door service). I did laundry while there, too (something I was prepared for in advance by checking out your website). I also called reservations, your shipping dept., concierge, the front desk, used your shuttles multiple times, and everyone was helpful, informative, pleasant, and returned my phone calls in a prompt manner. Honestly, my interactions were all extremely positive and helpful. A wonderful experience with the Beaver Run staff.
Skiing was great. I did have a bit of trouble with the altitude and had an oxygen treatment at the spa. That worked wonders! In all, three of our party had oxygen therapy and all with great relief. (We are FL and Texas people…sea level folks.)
I honestly cannot think of one thing I could say, or one single interaction at the resort that was not positive. The ski rentals were super easy. We bought lift tix in advance and they were sent to us at home. We ordered our equipment in advance. Everything was really super easy. Like clockwork.
So, THANK YOU from the Bachi Family for a wonderful ski vacation at Beaver Run Resort. Our room was beautiful. The cleaning crew was so friendly and the service was exceptional. I got locked out of my room (the manual lock behind the door engaged itself) and maintenance came and fixed it right away. Just every employee we encountered was excellent…from reservations, to the shuttle drivers, the maintenance guys, shipping, concierge, cleaning crew, front desk help, ski staff…all wonderful and professional.
Just wanted to pass our kudos along. Thank you! There were a lot of us in 1 and 2 bedroom suites, and a few at the Doubletree next door. Everyone enjoyed their stays. We even had ski school set up at peak 8 and your concierge encouraged us to change that to peak 9. We did. Whew! (Thank you for that suggestion as it would have been a nightmare getting to and fro each day.) Just all around a great vacation and a very positive experience with your staff.
Again, thank you for all your hard work. We truly enjoyed our stay.
Pat Bachi (and the entire family) Stayed in building 3. Perfect ski in/ski out location. Locker...
