Our first room had ants and a diaper stuck behind the TV (EW! What kind of heathen sticks a diaper behind a TV?!?) that housekeeping had somehow missed. They quickly gave us a new room. That was great, and well-handled. I wouldn't even be mentioning it if it weren't for the pool issue.
Our first day there, we inquired about booking a timeslot at the pool, and what the policies were (COVID concerns). We called the front desk in the afternoon and were told that the pool was 1 group at a time, we could book for an hour, and that they'd only let other people in with us if we said it was okay. We gave our room number to book a 5p timeslot, went to the pool had a great time. After our good experience that day, around 8p that night, we decided to book the pool for 9a slot this morning, and we assumed no one else had booked for that time because they gave us the slot. When we went down this morning, we discovered that someone was already in the pool, and were told by the very exasperated person at the front desk that they could book 3 groups in at once. When I said we'd been given a different policy the day before, she demanded to know who, and I said that we had booked the pool for 5p the night before and the policy stated at that time. Now, this is a small, highly enclosed, nicely warm room with a pool in it (maybe a 20 foot pool, with a max depth of 5 feet), so having 3 separate groups in there, unmasked, might be beyond the state limitations. Had we been told that was their policy, we would not have booked the pool for the 5p timeslot, and had we known their policy would change from one day (or one set of employees) to the next, we might not have booked it at all.
I went back down and spoke to the lady at the front desk after the hustle and bustle of breakfast was done (10a) to see if the pool was free. She said someone was using it, and gave us the 11a timeslot. When she brought out the pool book to look at timeslots, I could clearly see that we were the only room number signed up for the 9a timeslot, and that someone had given our slot away, perhaps by letting people into the pool without checking the book.
Pool issues aside, the beds were comfy, the Friday staff very helpful and accommodating, and the lady who runs the breakfasts nice. They would have gotten a higher rating if there wasn't confusion between the Friday afternoon/evening and Saturday morning staff about pool policies and bookings. And if they hadn't given our booking away causing some very...
Read moreWe have stayed at quite a few Tru hotels and like them. We stayed here at Chambersburg before and found it clean and comfortable. At that time we didn't stay for breakfast because the place was very crowded with rescue workers for some floods but the breakfast looked good. |This time at a Tru we had a different experience. The room wasn't quite as clean or straightened the way a room usually is. Also the hotel is at a very busy intersection and on the other side is the highway, both very noisy, especially the highway in the middle of the night. We did not get the best sleep. Then at breakfast there were a few surprises. The wonderful waffle makers they used to have were gone. In their place was a machine that made little pancakes. Great, I'll try one. Unfortunately the pancakes were a nice brown on one side but wet and uncooked on the other. Okay, we'll have eggs - except they had little hard things they called omelets. No fresh scrambled eggs. Okay, we'll have toast - except the machine only burned the toast and they had no butter, only some kind of fake spread. Okay, we'll have a cup of coffee - except they had no cream or half-and-half, only some fake stuff that I didn't know they made anymore. We gave up and went for breakfast elsewhere. As we checked out, the lady at the desk asked us how the stay was. We mentioned that our clock radio alarm went off at 3:00 am. She laughed and said, that happens. No that does not happen if your housekeepers check things when guests leave. We'll likely stay at other Tru hotels but not the one in...
Read moreThis will be a long one. I will first say the hotel is amazing. The design and decor is funny and very updated. The breakfast was good and the room was very nice for a good price. The reason I'm giving this hotel only two stars is because of a problem with one of staff. We were there in January for a birthday stay vacation. On the second day we asked for the room to be refreshed. It was about noon. As we left and headed to the car a staff member yelled and chased after us into the parking lot. We had to roll down our window for this man to tell us we should be wearing a mask. There was no reason to follow us into the parking lot. There were better ways to handle this. We return around 4. The room still was not cleaned. We assumed they were getting to it. we left again and returned around 9. The room WAS STILL NOT CLEANED. I was mad. I headed down to the desk and asked for the room to be cleaned. Letting them know it was not cleaned when I first asked. The person behind the desk was condescending and making excuses for the people that were there before. It took me asking two people and 9 hours for a small room to be cleaned. Thats insane. The cherry on top is when I returned at night to see the person who I last spoke to. He said well you're room's cleaned. I nodded and kept going. He rudely yelled across the lobby at me, well you're welcome. Hotel hopping is something I do for fun and I have never had a hotel staff act so outright rude. So my advice enjoy the hotel and...
