Was her about a month ago and blah. Their prices went up and quality went down. My macaroni salad was not fresh at all. Friend ordered a Ruben sandwich and was planning to take half of it home, but it looks like they made it on regular small sandwich bread and it was so tiny it was ridiculous. Likewise my sandwich was very sloppily made and there was sauce in the bottom of it in the container. So I was kind of a mess as I was eating it. Likewise the dining area was very messy. The one lady didn’t come out to clean off tables because my friend complained bec there were no clean tables, but definitely not a positive dining experience at all! Truthfully I get it. That prices are going up everywhere and good staff are hard to find anymore. But additionally I like to spend my money on things that I believe are quality. I rarely go out to eat anymore. So if I’m not getting that level of quality for my $, then I’m not returning. I honestly would’ve been happier with a happy meal from McDonald’s down the street, and it would’ve cost a lot less. The prepackaged Utz chips were wonderful. The fresh brewed tea was...
Read moreThis is such a great place and we always take family and friends here when they visit Chambersburg. It is conjoined with the butcher shop which is equal in quality and experience. The cafe is designed like a coffee shop with beautiful shiplap type accents. There is a ton of seating inside, but also a huge amount of seating outside. The huge pergola is nestled in gorgeous landscaping and potted plants.
While they don't have gluten free breads yet, they do have some Udi's gluten free packaged baked goods. The ingredients are all super fresh and they also offer a "sandwich spread" salad with toppings from various sandwiches on greens as an alternative to the yummy sandwiches.
I loved flavored coffee, brewed, not with the syrup. The Vanilla was really tasty. The baked goods look so yummy! Even though I can't eat them I included pictures. My husband says their soups are always amazing; this particular day he ordered the loaded baked potato soup.
Don't forget to browse the butcher shop - lots of prepared foods, grocery items, and a bakery in addition to the meat/butcher shop...
Read moreThe atmosphere of the Coffee Shop has been displaced by their remodeling. They have crunched nice new tables together into a small area and removed a customer's privacy. It made me feel sad to see what was done to it. In essence, the "Big Oak Cafe" is gone! Even Sheetz and Rutters allows for more privacy with their seating. The open space now makes you feel as if you are sitting in the market with all the people walking by, etc. If I go shopping for food I would go into the market. If I wanted a relaxing time with a friend having coffee and a sandwich, I went into the coffee shop. That choice is now gone! They even took out the bathroom, for goodness sake! How inconvenient is that? I hope the Butcher Shop's effort to sell more "stuff" by making these changes pays off for them, but I, for one, feel our community has lost something unique and special. I've heard it said, that "If something ain't broke, you don't fix it." Goodbye to the Big...
