I am regretfully leaving this review to warn people of the horrible management that we experienced first hand.
I must give this restaurant a very high rating for their food, service, and wait staff. Everyone we encountered was great!!…..until the manager came out,
We visited on Thursday night 8/1/24 around 7:00pm and got seated immediately (party of 2). The hostess and our server were both very friendly, professional, and attentive to us and other customers.
Another couple came in, were seated and ordered some drinks. Their drinks seemed to be slow to come out to the point that they actually showed up with the meal. I overheard the gentlemen inquire with the server about speaking with a manager…….and all hell broke loose.
The manager stormed out, asked the people “what was their problem”, I heard the gentleman explain the drink situation and ask if the manager could comp him a drink, the manager said “you don’t tell me what to do, I make the decisions here”. At one point in the exchange I heard the manager yell out “I don’t care”, not sure what was said to cause that reaction, but if you work in hospitality or customer service “I don’t care”should not be a part of your vocabulary. We saw other people in the establishment turning around in awe to this whole spectacle. We were extremely uncomfortable, as were others.
I guess what turned me off even more is that after the exchange I could hear the manager bragging in the back about how he “told that guy” a thing or two….seriously….you just scared all your customers and you are going to keep going?!?!
I hate to write this negative review as we are locals and we always loved this place for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. 99% of the staff is great, but one bad apple brings down the whole place. If I walk into the Trojan dinner again and THAT manager is on duty, I am going...
Read moreWe were here 11/17, the day after their Grand Opening, and were very impressed. The service was great. We were greeted when we arrived, and our server was friendly. My friend had the roasted chicken, which he said was amazing. Interestingly, he asked for the Broasted chicken, but was very pleasantly surprised by the roasted chicken, and said he would order it again, so that ended up being a plus. My main course was French toast, and it was amazing. I almost called our server back, because I didn’t get any butter with it, but it didn’t need it, or anything other than syrup, and maybe a little more powdered sugar. Regardless, it was so good. A complimentary pancake also came with my entree. It was delicious, but tasted more like a dessert pancake. I would recommend making it just that, because it would be a unique dessert, and could be topped with whipped cream, and maybe a fruit topping of choice. The highlight of the meal was the cheeseburger soup. It doesn’t sound like the most satisfying soup, but I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t one of the best soups I’ve ever had. My friend agreed. Honestly, I’ve never ordered a soup to go, but I did with this one. An overall great experience, we’ll definitely be back. We’ve been looking for a really good diner in the Chambersburg/Greencastle/Hagerstown/Waynesboro area. Our previous favorite was Hickory Ridge. As of right now, this is our new favorite. Very highly recommend!
EDIT: I have visited this restaurant twice since sharing my review, and was very disappointed both times. Slow service, too cold inside, and the chicken dishes I ordered came out cold - not even warm. No apologies from anyone for the horrible service, either, because there was no customer focus. Wouldn’t recommend this...
Read moreI really wanted to give this place a 5 stars, but their lack of customer accommodation in ordering what the customer wants cannot ever allow me to replace this well earned 1 star. This place had so much promise, and I applaud them for standing up to governor Wolfe, but when you offer a meal with a soup, and then won't substitute a chili, even at an upcharge, it is absolutely assanine business practice that in a consumer driven society will not keep them in business long. If they overhaul management and policies, they may have a chance. If you're in chambersburg and have no other options, go for it, otherwise, if you expect any level of actual customer service, skip this one.
Upon opening our silverware, we found an absolutely filthy fork, along with a bunch of other spotted silverware. The meal arrived and it was good. Much of it tasted canned, but it was acceptably prepared. The ham loaf and the meat loaf offered what I thought were value portions... and then I got the check.
Without ever indicating such, the check arrived with $4 in upcharges. 1 each for 2 orders of tator tots and 2 orders of sweet potato fries. This left what could've been a redeemable experience fall completely flat. There's nothing indicating an upcharge on the menu, and ironically enough, lacking substitution upcharge abilities are what left me seriously regretting this visit in the first place. I regretfully tipped, less the $4 in hidden fees. What normally would've been a $10+ tip dwindled its way down to $4 because of poor customer communication and...
