Let me start with the removal of a star. This hotel is across the street from the beach and was super simple and easy to get to. My issue was that I was never informed that the beach is public, and the chairs and umbrellas are owned and serviced by the City of Clearwater. As a Hyatt guest, you get a discounted rate ($17.50 fee) for an umbrella and two chairs per booked room. So, a family of four staying in a room would be looking at $17.50 plus $40 (regular fee) regardless of whether they are in a suite or a regular room. This infuriated me because I was already paying a $35 resort fee plus two $2 fees for something else per day.
Hyatt Corp. was very dismissive and a bit standoffish to my complaints. However, the on-location staff (Nick and Lyndsey) were heroes, offering a further discount on the second set of chairs and an umbrella. Lyndsey even called the next day to make sure I was okay.
@Hyatt, this should be transparent on your site. When I see "Beach Resort," my perception is that I will be feet in the sand with the amenities of a hotel. I could have stayed at a cheaper hotel or Airbnb and paid the $40 the same way. I came to Hyatt for a level of service I expected. Train your front desk to explain the beach arrangements better.
**PRO TIP: If you plan to stay at the beach for a significant amount of time, go in the morning. Drop your two towels per chair, pay the beach fee, and now those chairs are yours for the day. Go back and do as you like. As long as you leave something (towels worked for us), that is your spot.
**Pro Tip 2: Find a spot in the second row (have a row in front of you) and ideally have the row in front of you with the "clam-shaped" cabanas. They take more room and leave less space for a family to come with a pop-up tent. Trust me, that happens often. The front and rear have popup tents along both. So, don't grab the first or last row. Play it safe, choose the second row, and have the "cabana" in front.
**Pro Tip 3: I never liked rooms with pool access, but this is the one time I wish I did. There is not a lot of shade at the pool. So, either prepare to get there early or much later. Unlike the beach, after 20 minutes of being empty, they will remove your belongings. I wish I had a pool room as this comes with two chairs and loungers that are private. They also had a full curtain to close it off for more privacy.
I was there Memorial Day Weekend, so perhaps that was just insanely busy. I wish I knew these three tips before going, which would have saved me a bunch of irritation (vaping, pot, eight different radios going at once, and a lot of cursing).
*The Good (and this was very good): The room was a suite with a living room. Very clean and accommodating with two baths. They allowed me to check in early. Much appreciated. As mentioned, the on-site staff was great. Close to the beach as well as quick bites to eat on and off-site (burger, ice cream, and a pizza spot right below). Close to a lot of things at night. The water really is crystal clear, and the sand is some of the whitest (cool to the touch!). The waves were very mild; you can actually enjoy the ocean and not be on the lookout for a wave that will wipe you out.
Overall, I thought the hotel staff was great. Truly...

During my recent visit, I encountered several issues that I believe need to be addressed. Upon arrival, I joined the line to check in, with my two daughters by my side. A man with a suitcase arrived after us, and the female valet attendant approached him, acknowledging only him and even offering him a drink. While I am not particularly upset about this, I was quite taken aback by how we were completely ignored. It was as though we were invisible, with not so much as a welcoming hello.
Check-in itself went smoothly. We inquired about the availability of showers and were assured that they would be opened by housekeeping. This conversation took place in the morning.
As we explored the grounds, we encountered further disappointments. The key to access the top-floor jacuzzi was faulty. The pool, while lovely, was not as described in the professional photos. Contrary to the impression given, there is no direct access to the beach. Instead, one must cover up and go to a different floor to reach the elevator or stairs that lead to the street. Additionally, there were no showers by the pool.
After spending time at the beach, we returned to the property as it began to rain, hoping to use the showers. However, we couldn't locate them, so I returned to the front desk. The person who had checked us in said they would look into it and suggested we speak to the person at the market kiosk. When I approached the kiosk, the woman there, who had already shown a less-than-friendly attitude, informed me curtly that only the front desk could contact security to unlock the showers. After waiting for about half an hour, I sought out public showers, but the only available option was the outdoor "turtle" showers along the beach boardwalk. We were left with no choice but to use wipes to clean up.
When it came time to check out and return our bracelets and key cards, we were once again ignored. Another guest, who arrived after us, was immediately attended to by the staff. Once it was finally my turn, I returned the items, only to be told that there was no need to do so. This left me wondering if they expected us to simply discard them.
Given my experience, I rated this location poorly due to the significant lack of customer service. It's perplexing to offer a pool and beach without accessible showers. The game room was underwhelming, and its accessibility was unclear. While the meal options appeared reasonable, I chose not to dine there, as I was not inclined to further patronize an establishment where the service was lacking.
As someone who is well-traveled, I cannot in good conscience recommend this location to my...
Read moreLarge hotel in an excellent location right on Clearwater Beach. Our room had a small kitchen (which we’d booked) which was perfect for what we needed as we do like to have our own food available. The room itself was extremely spacious, well appointed (with things like USB ports), a large TV and bathroom and the bed was incredibly comfortable. The AC did make quite a racket but it did keep the room cool and we got used to it. The balcony had great views of the ocean and beach.|For anyone interested, the kitchen had a large fridge freezer, hob and microwave (no oven). A lot of surface and storage space and only 4 of all utensils and crockery and just a couple of a pans. However, this was more than sufficient.||Check-in was easy and Karen on Reception was extremely helpful in relocating us to a different room as soon as we complained about the noise in our first room, which was coming from the street outside (live music) but was so loud there was no escape from it. The 14th floor which she moved us to was an immediate improvement and much preferred!||Things which might be of interest:|- The gym is free to use and well appointed|- Valet parking is $40 per day (there isn’t actually much available parking in that area)|- You can use the loungers by the pool for free (it’s a shallow pool)|- Beach chairs and umbrellas are not included, you have to pay $20 per day (we didn’t bother with this as the beach was crowded and noisy)|- There is a hot tub and more loungers on the top floor terrace and it’s quieter up there, but note they do play some pretty awful music (to our taste) all the time which rather ruins it|- There’s a lot of general street noise outside all the time which can’t be helped, it’s busy|- You can hire a bike from the ‘garage’ for free for 1 hour included in the room price. It’s $12 an hour per bike after that. Be warned that the whole hire thing is through an app which you have to download and load a credit card onto. The whole saga of doing this was unremittingly awful because there’s no WiFi in the garage area which meant running back to the Reception area to download and log in before dashing back out to try and get the bike to unlock before it loses signal. Even though this was off-puttingly hateful, the biking was quite good fun – we got all the way over to Sand Key Park and to the very top of Clearwater Beach.||The Hyatt was a good hotel overall though with excellent service and friendly and helpful staff. It’s also really close to the pier and marina area where all the water tours, rides and activities take place (within...
