The restaurant failed to honor an advertised price that was - and currently is - posted on Cleveland Restaurant Week's website (see attached image). The advertised $44 dinner for two was - upon arrival to the restaurant and after spending $10 for "special event parking" - $44 per person. Big difference! It was deceptive and false advertising that the manager said was a "mistake" and that what they submitted online was wrong. This is despite the fact that 1) no other restaurant had similar language in their pricing/description (e.g. typo probability is low), 2) the website has been up for days at this point in time, and 3) Restaurant Week has been active for nearly two days now. Also, quick side note, the part that ended up making this $44 dinner "special" was the inclusion of a free cannoli. Existing pricing of their first and second select courses added up around that $44 dollar mark anyway.
What was unfortunate is that when the discrepancy was initially brought up to the waiter, the manager sent an alternate to come talk to us first. Unfortunately, the alternate went to the wrong table. Figuring that the table behind us had also discovered this false advertising (as I could clearly overhear the commentary on the pricing), the manager (who had eventually showed up to address us directly) responded to my reference to a similar conversation behind us with "no, she went to the wrong table with what I had told her to say." Really? He couldn't have come over himself the first time? Interesting side note, when addressing the wrong table, his colleague had mentioned she had to "call him" about the issue...bizarre given that he was literally right around the corner.
Anyway, the manager failed to make an equitable adjustment given the deceptive offering made online, but did suggest that he could take "10% to maybe 15%" off of the final bill. He ended up not honoring that discount either.
We were lied to online and lied to in-person.
The waiter, Joshua, was awesome. I felt bad for him and the other team members. The manager and hostess were often sitting or standing together and laughing with one another while the waitstaff and bar tenders were working diligently to serve the clientele. The other staff may not say anything because they like their jobs, but help and assistance with food prep, cleaning, wiping down tables, etc. is often super appreciated, especially when everyone is busy during dinner hours.
The cooks were likely short staffed, as the food took longer than average and several minor parts of our meal were inedible or undesirable due to overcooking and/or burning. I felt bad for them also, as one of the employees was walking around drinking wine and weaving in and around the bar area, hostess area, and order pick-up area in clear site of the cooks and kitchen team.
It was a bizarre experience, but one that I hope is an isolated incident. Additionally, I hope that they resolve their current violations with Ohio Revised Code Section 4165: Deceptive...
Read moreService was below poor. Hostess seated us with a smile but little other interaction. Was a small wait before the bus boy silently filled water glasses and a bit longer before our server greater us. She asked my more than slightly pregnant wife if she would like a glass of wine and when asked for lemon w her water the server ran off before asking or even waiting for a response from me. Upon return w lemons I asked if there were any specials to which a sharp NO was given (not disrespectful but not politely either). We requested an order of the sauted calamari to which she blurted "You know that's not fried right?" We stated we were aware and placed the rest of our order. Server said she'd be back with bread. Now around when the lemons were brought an additional family was sat, order taken and bread brought. Our calamari arrived w a hostess and we request bread and more water. We were given an excuse that they were waiting on fresh bread from the oven and the hostess returned to her stand where she entered into a lengthy Convo w the other hostesses. 3 more tables received bread during this time, one within seconds of the excuse. Our server ran by at a distance multiple times bringing drinks to other patrons. Upon this other family's 2 entries and a pizza arriving they asked for more bread and got it before our server returned. To the credit of one of the other hostesses she was heard being very polite and accommodating as she sat another couple. Upon the return of our server she cleared our plates taking my wife's utensils and stated she'd bring fresh utensils with our meal. I politely asked again for bread and to refill my wives empty water glass (which had been empty almost since the apitizer arrived). We received an apology. 3 minutes later bread arrived, we no longer had any plates to eat on though. Our meals arrived, still no utensils for my wife, so I asked the other server for such. She returned promptly but w only a fork. Me and my wife shared my knife as a result. Our meal was very good, maybe a small portion for the prices but not unreasonable. We enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. And we did receive a 2nd serving of bread without asking. When our server finally seen that i had stacked our dishware at the end of the table and was waiting for her to return she tried to salvage things. She raced over offering to clear the table and I asked for the check, never did ask if we wanted desert (we didn't so no issue here). She blurted out asking if I would like another glass of water as she hussled away not waiting for a response. -Service was below poor. -Atmosphere and food was nice. -menu was smaller than I had hoped. Not sure we'd go back when Little Italy is so close, larger menus, and higher...
Read moreThis place had such good reviews and I really wanted my best friend to have a good experience for her birthday dinner. DISAPPOINTED is an understatement. As soon as we walked in the host was rude and immediately glared at us without even welcoming us to the restaurant. Instead, we had to approach her saying we had a reservation. Fast forward to actually getting our food: the appetizer, salad (i ordered) and WATER were the only things we enjoyed. 3 of us ordered fettuccine and one of us ordered the quinoa salad to which we were completely baffled by. The fettuccine was extremely undercooked; there’s a very distinct difference between Al dente and undercooked, to which our dishes were most definitely the latter. As for taste, It was as if alcohol and lemon had just been dumped over the top, both of which were not in the description of ingredients on the menu. It wasn’t cheesy in the slightest. Absolutely nothing about the dish was worth $27. The quinoa bowl was mushy and dry, with the dressing adding no assistance. We all had plates seemingly untouched on the table and our server, Amanda G, did not think to ask if there was an issue with our food when we didn’t ask for boxes and the full plates were taken away . The birthday girl then took the initiative to ask what was in the fettuccine because it tasted off. Amanda then proceeded to dismiss her concerns stating we don’t know what true Italian is supposed to taste like because we live in america. She also stated that a hint of truffle was added to the pasta, also not listed on the menu. What if there was an allergy? This is bigger than not enjoying the flavors, or rather, lack thereof. When the birthday girl asked if there was any dessert specials for birthdays she then TOLD her, not questioned, “we have a cannoli. you don’t know what a cannoli is” treating her like an idiot. We all felt very taken aback and offended by her snide and passive aggressive comments. She also took over 30 minutes to get our checks. We had places to be. Overall, the cost of dining at this establishment should not be used as a marker of its quality; everything from the food to the staff was subpar at best. I strongly encourage you to do better and value your customers...
