El Hoyo (the hole) is a jewel of a hole in the wall waiting to be discovered. They are Mexican/Americans serving authentic Mexican food. And, it is delicious! You get pre-meal condiments of chips and 2 dips plus soup! The entrees are generous and beautifully presented. The quesadillas are HUGE! They have to cut them in half... and still, they are a double-handed mess to eat. So yummy! The servers are friendly and attentive. It helps to know a little Spanish, though it is not necessary. I am so lucky to live across the street! EDIT 10/31/21: Well, I got hungry today and ordered the Puerca en Salsa Roja... excellent choice! Served with the ubiquitous rice and beans and 6 corn tortillas... this dish filled me right up. There must have been at least 10 ounces of the tenderest pork imaginable on my plate. The salsa roja was actually moreno (brown), but was just the right amount of spicy. And, the pork was cut leaving occasional little pieces of ropy cartilage that are so fun to chew. Add to this the appetizers the El Hoyo always serves... tortilla chips with bowls of both salsa roja and salsa verde, plus a small bowl of sopa with noodles... and I had a very satisfying meal, both in taste and in all-important (to me) volume. I took a before picture to show the generous serving of meat, and an after picture to show the bones. Real meat!

Delicious family restaurant. Small cozy dining room close to Baylor Dallas. El Hoy Yo has been in business for a couple decades with plenty of delicious, reasonably priced meals. Highly recommended for a cozy spot in Dallas with excellent food and customer service.

The huevos rancheros are đŸ”„đŸ”„ Great and authentic mexican food. Service was great and on point. The sopa de fideo tastes just like my moms. Migas were great too.

Food: The food was just bad. I tried an agua fresca, Jamaica flavor, and it tasted like it was sitting for days in the fridge. There was no flavor on that drink whatsoever. The chips are bland and tasteless, and their accompanying salsas were watery and tasteless. The fideo soup was okay, I really hoped that it was a small cup of beans. I ordered a plate of beef fajitas. The fajitas had no sort of flavor, for I had to use an adequate amount of salt and their “salsa”. I give them 2 points because at least the meat was chewable, and because they served it with fresh handmade corn tortillas.

Service: The waitress suddenly left out of nowhere and the chef took her place. That was really odd especially cause the chef gave me the creeps. The waitress had difficulty handing over our food, she didn’t know where to put it on the table.

Pricing: At first, I thought that the prices were average, but after tasting this poorly made meal, I think that the owner needs either cut the price a bit, or get a new chef and waitress. I felt that I could’ve used the money I spent on buying the stuff and make it myself.

I strongly suggest you not to go there if you are looking for good...

15$ for a plate is what I would expect to pay at a nice Mexican restaurant. The food is pretty good, but this is no Glorias or Matito's. Worse, they charge by the can. 2 cans of coke + a meal comes out to 20$. Then based on another review I thought to check my bank account and sure enough they charged me an extra 5$....Edit: So after the charge cleared the amount matched what my receipt said. So idk if its just something to do with their pos system or they just saw my review but I will add...
