We stayed here because of the location. Good thing because everything else wasn't very nice. We stayed on July 26th and Aug. 1st, 2021. I am a Platinum member and I stay at a lot of Holiday Inn, and Holiday Inn Express hotels. We stayed at this hotel on the way to and from Virginia. I am use to getting treated like a loyalty member but I was not treated that way at this Holiday Inn Express. On our first stay I told them I was a Platinum member and wanted a free up grade like I normally get. I was told it would cost more and I got the best price for the room I was going to get and if I wanted the upgrade I would have to pay more. I was not greeted as a loyalty member even though I told them I was. I wasn't offered loyalty points. I tried to charge the room on my IHG Card on file but was told I couldn't because I didn't give them the card when I checked in. I used points the second time we stayed there and they use the card on file to charge me for incidentals and they also charged me for the room. I had to call them after I was notified about the charge to get the money back. And the charges were not the same rate.
When it came to leave the hotel on our first night we went down for breakfast about 45 minutes after they started to serve. The food was mostly gone. There were no eggs, no sausage links, and a big pan of sausage patties. I tried a few of the sausage patties and ended up throwing them away because they were like rubber. I think left over from a different day. Everyone I saw take any of the sausage patties did the say, threw them away. The biscuits and gravy were good, so I had those. Not a very good choice of things, and the quality was very poor. The second time we stayed there was no hot breakfast. NOTHING!!! The trays were empty! There was coffee, and some left over boiled eggs in the refrigerator from the day or two before, but nothing else. There was one tray of cinnamon rolls but that went very fast. We ended up having to stop for breakfast later in the morning. I am very unhappy with this Holiday Inn Express. I will not be...
Read moreWhen on the road (and we travel LOTS) we always make a point to stay at at Holiday Inn Express, if there is one in the area. This hotel lived up to the expectations we had: great location, clean and spacious room, friendly staff, and AWESOME hot breakfast.
So, why did I knock one star off my rating for our experience? Here ya go ... We checked in at about 8pm, and had had a 12 hour drive behind us. We both took a hot shower, got in bed and noticed immediately that the room above us seemed to be holding a dance party. But, we let it go and expected they would maybe quiet sown about the 10pm hour. We fell asleep, woke up at 1:30am, and the thumping was still going on! I called the front desk and Shelby answered and said she would take care of the situation. Well, the noise went on, so about 20 min. later I walked to the floor above me, assured myself that the noise was coming from this room, and then went to the front desk. Shelby said that she tried to make contact by phone (no answer) then knocked on the door of the room (also no answer.) She then said that she was going to call the security company that handles situations such as this for them. I returned to my room, and it wasn't 10 min. later that I heard a LOUD pounding on a door above me which I took to believe was security. The noise ended immediately after, and we were able to get a few more hours of sleep. Thanks Shelby!
Now for the breakfast. Stacy was the attendant on hand this particular morning, and she kept the coffee fresh and hot, re-stocked scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, and everything else. She was running around doing a good job of keeping pace with the demand.
So, good job Stacy, and good job Holiday Inn Express for salvaging a night that could have been ruined by a group of what I found later were teenagers.
Footnote ... I'm attaching 2 pics to show the Holiday Inn Express is still going the extra mile to practice health safety...
Read moreWe have never had this experience before in any IHG Hotel. We were exhausted from 9 hours of travel and my wife asked the desk clerk (he was sitting down) if there was fresh coffee. He looked up and said he did not know but that she could do it in the room, then he looked back down at his computer. We were shocked! We went to the room #123 and tried to settle down only to find that the heat would not work and there was a shrill noise that kept coming, like it was an elevator whistle, but we were almost to the outside wall and there was no elevator there. John went to the clerk and advised of the situation and then moved us to room 101. It seemed OK at first but then found out that the bathroom was dirty. There was urine that had run down the outside of the toilet and was crusted. Have you ever tried (ladies) to sit so that your clothes don't touch the front of a toilet when you have your best clothes on? We decided to just go to bed and let them know in the morning. At check out the lady at the front desk was on the phone but standing up and checking out a lady ahead of us. She was talking on the phone and also asking the routine questions to the lady ahead of us. We wanted to wait till she was off the phone but there was another person now behind us to check out. She continued to talk on the phone and ask us the routine questions. SO VERY DISCOURTEOUS! That was not acceptable. We shared with her about the dirty bathroom especially around the toilet and I watched as she wrote that on a tablet, but who knows where that paper went??? We don't even know if John got his military discount because we were so very tired and just wanted to rest. All the above caused Donna distress and did not get much sleep. What are your thoughts about this IHG Hotel (Holiday Inn Express) in Mount Vernon, IL now? We would like to hear from you about this and what you are going to...
