I have stayed here twice and had two very different experiences. The first time, everything was very decent - from the person who checked me into the motel, down to the comfort of the bed and what appeared to be recent renovations to update/modernize the room. I was pleased with the value and my stay.
My second stay, which was on the same days of the week, was not nearly as pleasant. I was charged a much higher rate, my room, though clean enough, was not as clean as it could have been, with several hairs in the bathtub (which could only be used as a shower and not a tub), a lot of dust on the dresser and desk, and a dirty tissue under the bed. Granted, I likely would not have seen the tissue had I not dropped something on the floor, but I did drop it - so I did see it.
It was irritating that after I checked in at noon for my second stay (the same time I checked in for my first stay) I was charged an additional $10 fee for early check-in. This was apparently a new "feature" since I didn't have to pay it the first time. I was also dismayed to see that later when I went for lunch, the price on the sign had gone back down to the price I had paid on my previous stay.
It seems I arrived at a terrible time exactly just one month from my first stay because I felt truly price-gouged on my second visit with fees for my arrival time and a $13 higher rental fee that was almost instantly lowered after I checked in. I'm aware motel rates vary, but there seemed no valid reason for it at this time. The staff member who checked me in on my second visit was also lacking in the area of customer service compared to the other two staff members with whom I had the pleasure of doing business.
Overall, it is difficult to know just how this place operates since my two month-apart visits were so diametrically opposed in nearly every way. Though I can say that consistency tends to lead to a more satisfactory overall experience and lack of it tends to leave me confused as to this inn's mission.
I have one more trip scheduled to Greenfield, Indiana, and given there are at LEAST two other hotel/motel establishments within walking distance of the Greenfield Inn, I may not chance it to find out which of my two visits is representative of the standard service here. I would not, not recommend this place as a place to stay, though. It is generally clean and close to the interstate and the beds are comfortable. It's just perhaps a gamble as to what to expect. A lack of consistency is really my only complaint.
NEW COMPLAINT! Suddenly this place has decided to raise their rates by nearly $30/night. For the same price, you can stay at the much nicer, cleaner, Super 8 less than 100 yards away that offers indoor pool, hot tub, free continental breakfast, rooms with microwaves, fridges and coffee pots and about twice as much room. In my opinion, this ridiculous price hike at the Greenfield Inn may just put them out of business since they've done absolutely nothing to make the place worth the extra...
Read moreI would give this rat whole less than one star if I could. We were STUCK staying there for a prolonged amount of time and it was horrible and disgusting. Throughout our stay housekeeping never entered or even stopped by our room, not once. The rooms were nasty and horribly outdated. The room we stayed in had very old, outdated furniture and an old tubed television. The door to our room was splitting at the bottom and was only held together by a small nail. Every time someone took a shower we ended up with a half of an inch of standing water on the floor. In order to get towels and wash clothes we had to walk our used ones up to the office and exchange them ourselves and on multiple occasions were handed back dirty items with stains and smudges on everything. In order to get clean bed linens, we had to strip the beds ourselves and carry the linens up to the office ourselves first thing in the morning and had to wait until late that night, around 10 or 11 for them to return from the laundromat, go back up to get the linens and re make the beds ourselves. We even asked for a room with a fridge and microwave and were told that there were none available, although we were clearly able to see empty rooms that had them. We were stuck using the fridge and microwave in the office and only when the office wasn't locked. We witnessed one tenant being hauled off by an ambulance after soiling the entire room with his blood, urine, vomit and feces, and nothing in the room was thrown out or given any special treatment. It was "cleaned" up several hours later by the normal housekeeper, which was the owner's wife, and she spent less than an hour in there. Also, when we checked in I thought it was a little odd that the kid at the counter mentioned and charged us a $20 cash no smoking fee after we had already paid for the room. Of course, when we finally checked out, the owner claimed that they had "been nice" and never charged us any fees such as that and attempted to refuse to refund the fee. If you can stay anywhere else I would strongly suggest that you do. But if you do get stuck staying there, good...
Read moreThe bed was fairly comfortable but I’m not sure if the sheets were changed, there was lots of hair on the blanket as well, the room was descent, but the fridge had some hair in it & the only lock on the door is the actual lock on the doorknob, no chain, no dead bolt, there are no phones in the rooms to be able to contact the front desk & the number on the website is disconnected, so if your going to check in make sure to get the WiFi password before you go to your room & get settled in bed, because otherwise you either have to get dressed to go get the password or you have to send an email & wait for a response, not sure if I will be back just for the security purposes of not having the extra locks on my door because the knobs are kind of shabby & don’t lock well, we ended up putting the desk chair under the knob, thankfully we are...
