After staying at the Comfort Inn in Hutchinson, Kansas, I’m not entirely convinced it isn’t cursed. Maybe it was just our rooms, or maybe there was something happening astrologically, but I’ve never had a worse experience in a hotel in my 37 years of life, and I once had to sleep in the bathtub of an overcrowded hotel room.
Upon our arrival, everything in the hotel seemed perfectly fine. The rooms were a little pricy, but the clerk told us we had a really good deal. We entered our first room, and my son used the bathroom and then couldn’t flush because the toilet was clogged. My husband asked for a plunger, but they couldn’t find one, so they moved us to an “upgraded” room. The upgraded room was bigger, but it had an animal-like smell my kids complained about. We told them to get over it and went about our day seeing the sights. That evening when we got into bed, I thought to myself, “I wonder if that smell is mold because it looks like there are some water stains on the ceiling.” Oh, how prescient that thought was. Within minutes, the TV signal went out and a thunderstorm began. As I started drifting off to sleep, I heard dripping. Then I felt dripping. Rain was leaking from the ceiling and dripping on the bed. We moved the bed and put down the ice bucket to catch the drips, and I told my husband I just wanted to sleep and deal with it in the morning, but then it started leaking on the kids on the fold out couch too, so we went and told the staff and were offered two options: a room with a smaller bed or our original room with a plunger. We took the second option and headed back to the first room with a plunger after repacking all of our stuff for a second time that day. It was 10:30pm.
In the second room, we started to unpack and went to make up the fold out couch. It was at that point we found out that the frame for the bed for the fold out couch was broken on one corner, putting the bed at an angle and making it unusable. I was exhausted, my kids were exhausted, and no one wanted to move again that night, so we put the fold out couch mattress on the floor for the kids to sleep on. The back of the mattress was not something I really wanted to see—it had some dark stains on it, and we had to ask for new bedding because the bedding on it wasn’t clean. We finally got everyone settled and to sleep around 11:30.
The next day we got a phone call from the manager offering us a room with a smaller bed, and so we took that for the last night of our trip. That room was fine except for the flashing light outside the window that reflected off the front pillar and straight into our eyes through the gap in the curtain that was impossible to entirely close. At checkout they gave us what they said was “a really good discount” on the first night and a small one on the second night because of the smaller room. Even with these discounts, we still paid more for the two nights we stayed in Hutchinson than the two nights we were in Wichita, and in Wichita we didn’t have to change rooms once.
We did like the biscuits and gravy at the...
Read moreFirst of all, the people here are PHENOMENAL!!!! I had booked online and then called to make sure the room I booked had the specifics I wanted to meet my needs. They kindly confirmed this and that the pool is open and they have a hot breakfast. The staff during my entire stay were so friendly. Always with a smile and great at acknowledging my three year old. We had a small accident and needed a bandaid which the front desk was able to accommodate with a smile! Rooms were clean. No seriously... CLEAN! The carpet didn’t have any stains, the furniture was dusted well (although some of it was fairly beat up towards the bottom of the cheat of drawers and the cabinet over the fridge in the room I was in), toilet bowl was spotless, shower and sink had not a single water spot. If I had to find something I would say the grout lines could use a little attention but let’s be honest, it’s grout lines. The pool area was clean and the pool wasn’t over regulated with chemical. It is heated but a still on the cooler side. If you are moving a lot in it it’s perfect. Slower moving we got a little chilled. If there was anything this hotel could improve on it would be a little more sound insulation between the rooms as I was able to hear the neighbors talking and coughing and their dog barking, however it didn’t keep me awake or wake me up in the night.
The only con that is no fault of the hotel is the trains going through occasionally. That was a little rough in the evening however I never woke up to one in the night so maybe they were just going late that one night.
Location wise it’s easy and quick to get to any areas of interest. Hospital, bowling alley, shopping, cosmosphere, college and restaurants.
We usually stay somewhere else when we visit this area but after this past experience I’m excited to come back to this Comfort Inn and Suites. Thank you so very much for providing a little home...
Read moreThe room was reserved under my wife's name Barbara on March 07-08 2015, rooms, beds were awesome and clean. but the part that made our stay not so nice....time change spring forward 1 hr, don't think this was the problem but....continental breakfast was to be served from 0630-0930 we slept in a bit but got down there at 0910 had 20 mins left before they stopped serving, as we got down to the breakfast area we was told by an employee they stop serving at 0930 not good morning but that was kind of strange since it was 0910 anyway, as we were getting our food they had started taking food away like fresh fruit, juice machine, we got our food as fast as we could, there was several people trying to get stuff also but she just kept taking stuff away, now the part that gets me was a momma with new baby and 4 other kiddos that missed food and still had 5 mins before time was up. we started talking with her and the employee over heard us talking and asked if there was a problem? well yes and we unloaded, she told us management would not pay them after 0930. She did say that she would go to the back and get those kids some breakfast. i cant see if there is still food why they cant serve till at least 0930 then clean up. we have 4 kids of our own and look for places that serve a continental breakfast do to cost of hotel and then go buy breakfast some where else. We just think management has a problem they need to correct to allow the employees time after said breakfast time or change the time. This incident will definitely make up our minds to say again and hope this is not a nation wide chain problem. Great hotel but needs...
