Had to change my rating from the 5 stars that is has been for a long time. We have loved Mr. Cao for a long time, especially since it is one of the few places to get sushi in Hutch, and pretty much the only place in town with quality sushi. Unfortunately, our last visit was a major issue. I'm not usually the kind of person to leave a bad review after a single visit (I usually give places up to 3 chances in case it is just an off day) but the service was especially unacceptable this time. The biggest issue was that I ordered the dynamite roll, which has no crab in it and they served me a roll with crab and I ate it before I noticed. Luckily, I avoid crab for religious reasons and not an allergy or else this could have been a lot worse. It is still a really big deal to me that I ate it, but at least I am not physically harmed like someone with an allergy could have been. A lot of people have shellfish allergies and could have gotten seriously messed up. The crab is imitation crab, but it still always has real crab in the ingredients (usually natural flavoring derived from crab). They did remake the roll after I sent it back, but they wouldn't give us more than a 5% discount (which came out to be 60Ā¢) after that huge mistake. We were insulted and very upset at such horrible customer service. I've worked in customer service before, and let me tell you, that's not how it's done. That's not how you keep customers. You don't mess up your own menu items and then charge basically full price even though your customer was seriously inconvenienced (I had to wait until everyone else was done eating before I even got to start mine) and given something against my religious preferences. Again, I am seriously glad it wasn't because of an allergy. Even if it was I probably would have only gotten an insulting discount. Besides that, the overall service/waitressing which is usually top notch was subpar, average at best. They were not even busy, especially for a Saturday afternoon. Besides us, they were definitely at 50% capacity, easily less. The waitress part I would be willing to overlook as a bad day, but it definitely didn't help with the main situation. In addition, even after my roll was sent back and the manager watched the sushi chef to make sure it was right the second time, they had conveniently left before the question of the bill came up. They didn't come to our table and talk to us about the issue at all, the waitress had to call them on the phone to discuss any discount and she made it seem like that was a big deal and kept trying to tell us that they wouldn't allow for any kind of discount at all. That is terrible management for so many reasons. The waitress indicated that they are under new management and have new chefs and that this has caused other (possibly similar) issues as well. May be best to avoid this place until they can get things sorted out and figure out what good customer service actually is. You stay in business because you are good to customers and they keep coming back for great food and good service, not because you penny pinch even when you make honest mistakes. Honestly, I'll probably just go to Blue Fin in Wichita next time I want sushi. I'd rather spend time and gas money to go to Wichita and know my food is safe and that I'll have good service. Trust and respect has definitely been lost. (I'll add that most of this is an issue completely with the management and not the waitress or even the chefs. The chefs are at fault a little, but they should have been provided better training and product knowledge which comes back in the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOk so this was my birthday dinner I wanted a new place to try and we found this one online. A party of 6 5 adults 1 child, we started with crab rangoon and the tempura soft shelled crab, my daughter and I ordered the fabulous sushi (Martha roll, Alaskan, and a fried tempura roll I forgot the name of) the rest of the party ordered the meal with noodles or rice and their choice of meats that came with salad chicken noodle soup and veggies, they didn't provide one diner with any of his sides, another one only got his salad after everything else was on the table, no soup, and his vegetables were not in a bowl like he asked because my daughter was going to eat them. there was a 20 minute time difference in food coming out we could see the kitchen and watched them laughing joking and tossing things around before noticing they had an audience and commencing to cleaning the grill for 10 minutes before starting the food. Our waiter was obviously new and he tried but the fact they had the audacity to tack an 18% tip on each of our bills and then put a line asking for tips on the receipt for anyone who did not notice is ridiculous there was nothing saying that charge was on our bill only one of my friends spotted it so my normal large tip stayed in my pocket since all of the mistakes, and their auto gratuity hiked our bill up an extra 20 bucks. Then just to top it off the women's bathroom was out if soap, had trash all over the floor and the toilets had obviously not been cleaned in a while, just like the mirror, counter, floor, and walls with mysterious brown swipes near...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWeāve had many good experiences here with the wait staff and the food is delicious. We went tonight and it was very busy, which we expected as it was Valentines Day and we were okay with waiting a little bit. We then witnessed the manager, I assume, completely brush off a customer when they asked whether they were on the wait list. The manager told them āI donāt even understand youā and walked off. Then she was extremely rude to what I assume was a Door Dash (or the like) driver. He was visibly upset but remained calm, his order was not ready to pick up and he asked her about its status. I felt sorry for the kid. It seemed like he had been waiting a long time and she refused to help him. She got an attitude with him and said ādo you even see this building?!!ā When asked if she could just look at all the orders waiting to be bagged (that we all clearly saw) she told him āno! I donāt even know what those areā and walked away. I feel bad for anyone who ordered pick up tonight because it sat and got cold and nobody cared. I sure hope the food didnāt spoil. Iāve never seen such unprofessional behavior. She was rude and condescending. We waited and watched her storm around and snap rude comments to staff and customers for 10 minutes without being spoken to by any employee and got out of there real quick. We then went to Chilis where we were seated promptly and were checked on multiple times by their manager and head chef despite being very busy as well. Mr. Cao, do something about...
