Rozzelle Court Restaurant at The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art leaves much to be desired when it comes to the culinary experience. While the setting is charming and the ambiance is pleasant, unfortunately, the food fails to live up to expectations.
The menu lacks variety and creativity, and the dishes we tried were rather bland and uninspiring. The flavors seemed to be lacking depth, leaving us underwhelmed with each bite. It was disappointing to see that the culinary offerings did not match the artistic excellence found throughout the museum.
Additionally, the coffee was a major letdown. For coffee enthusiasts like us, a good cup of coffee is essential, especially when paired with a meal. Unfortunately, the coffee at Rozzelle Court fell short of even basic expectations. It tasted stale and lacked the rich and robust flavor that we had hoped for.
Despite the restaurant's lovely setting, the overall dining experience was disappointing, and we left feeling unsatisfied. Considering the outstanding art and cultural experiences available at The Nelson-Atkins Museum, we had hoped for a culinary adventure that would complement our visit. Regrettably, Rozzelle Court fell short in delivering a memorable and enjoyable dining experience.
We do hope that the museum management takes these concerns into consideration and works to improve the restaurant's culinary offerings. With such a beautiful setting and a captive audience of art enthusiasts, Rozzelle Court has the potential to become a truly exceptional dining destination that complements the outstanding art and cultural experience found at The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. Until then, we will be exploring other dining options outside the museum...
Read moreI used to look forward to trying Roselle Court's cake options when visiting Nelson-Atkins Museum pre-covid, but this experience with their new management under American Dining Creations took away all the joy I once had coming here. The tart's crust was still frozen and extremely hard to break unless I put my whole arm's weight on the fork from above. The cake itself was very poor in flavor and quality—similar to what you would find at Sodexo, rather than restaurant quality. Their original chocolate cake option turned out to only include a tiny sliver that tasted like a mini Safeway cupcake without the cream on top. These cakes were extremely overpriced for what they were ($8.50 per plate) and poor quality—a shame considering how beautiful this court area is, and how delightful the experience once was with good food.
Other things to note: The water dispenser used to have lemons or limes in it, but now it has neither. The coffee came in a small ceramic cup and it tasted like very weak instant coffee—definitely not what you would expect for $3.50. The cashier was very slow and unapologetic about the long wait between ringing up customers. All of the professionalism and care I once experienced here was no longer present. Considering how the cakes plus the coffee made me feel unwell afterwards, and I cannot imagine myself...
Read moreI came to the restaurant during their dessert and coffee hours, and so I ordered a cappuccino and their honey lavender cheesecake. The draw to eat here is definitely from the 15th century Italian inspired atmosphere, which featured towering columns, potted trees and a fountain in the center. The courtyard is also popular for group reservations, but that is not required for seating. The restaurant has counter service, and patrons were called to the counter as per covid regulations. The menu can be accessed through a QR code in front of the entrance to review as you continue through the museum, and is also featured on a large monitor beside the cashier. I think this is a great place for lunch dates, or as a pick-me-up before returning...
