Have not been here for a while so my wife and I decided to visit again for our recent anniversary. We had heard some good things about it since a new ownership process. The interior improvements are very nice and make the place look more like a restaurant than a bar. We thought the wine list was very good for the area. Our server (so very sorry we can't remember her name)(we were seated in the very back on July 20th @ about 6 p.m. if that helps) was very attentive, excellent , and the food was plated very nicely and came to the table exactally as ordered. The bad: I ordered the Prime Rib. Again, it looked perfect but, it was tough. Prime should melt in your mouth. This required a substantial "chew". It was actually very confusing given the appearance. I did not complain. My wife ordered the Tenderloin. Again, it looked perfect but again, (both meats ordered medium rare and received that way) it was tough. Not with tendon tough as you sometimes find, just tough. My wife did not eat it and our server took it off our bill. Although very discouraged, we ordered dessert and it was fine. We can't help but think, given the quality of service and food prep, that the owners need to look elsewhere for their meat product. If it's coming from Gordon's Key West, I can attest that I've purchased meat there based on how good it looked, only to cook it perfectly and turn out the same way. They will have American beef and Mexican on the same shelf so watch out for that. And to be fair, I've had exactly the same experience with Winn Dixie from time to time. So, all in all, really good things happening at this restaurant. But we feel there's a need for another meat source. The meat served was prepared too well to be the...
Read moreWhat to say.. in less than 45 pages...?? Ok, so: easy parking. As soon as you'll open the door... you'll see one of the nicest bar I've ever seen. But... we're not here to watch, so.. let's go to the restaurant itself. The minor issues from the opening days have been addressed. The room is now more.. cosy, but mostly a lot less noisy, thanks to the absorbing sound panels. Decoration..?? Maguy (owner) could be an interior designer. Not overwhelming, yet.. warm, nice... okay, but.. we're not here to... watch, are we..?? So. Food. Ho my.. food..!! Just when you think that you finally have masterized the potatoes "au gratin" (with a hint of nutmeg..), you come here.. and you wanna cry. The meat..?? Melt in your mouth. Fish..?? You didn't know it could be so subtle, yet sooo tasty. What else.. not much really, this is simply one of the very best the Keys has to offer, quality, taste, harmony in between the dish components.. we're really dealing with a very talented Chef, inventive, but not disturbing, there's nothing negative to be said about the food, the balance in between tastes, flavors is always right on target.. Prices... absolutely correct, totally worth the amount of pleasure you'll find in your plates. Cool choice of wines, service friendly juuuuuust enough that you feel... like an old friend..?? If you haven't realized it yet.. I love this place. One more thing.. I've always heard about the fact that the restrooms are a great indicator of the "level " of the restaurant.. well.. these are...
Read moreI recently dined at Milagro in on our last night in Key West, hoping for a nice dining experience to cap off our trip. Unfortunately, it turned out to be quite the opposite.
I ordered the hogfish, which was dry and lacked flavor. It's disappointing when a restaurant can't get the basics of seafood right.
Even more concerning was my daughterâs dish. She ordered the scallops, which were clearly past their prime. They had a strong ammonia taste, a clear indication that they were not fresh and possibly unsafe to eat. This is completely unacceptable for any establishment, let alone one that prides itself on serving seafood.
On the positive side, when we brought our concerns to the staff, they were apologetic and promptly comped the scallops and shrimp dinner. While we appreciated this gesture, it didn't fully make up for the poor quality of the food.
The service, although polite and responsive to our complaints, couldn't compensate for the disappointing meal. We left feeling dissatisfied and wished we had chosen a different place for our last evening in Key West.
For anyone considering dining at Milagro, I would advise reconsidering until they address their quality control issues. There are plenty of other dining options in Key West that can offer a much better experience. Unfortunately we...
