First of all, I want to preface this with, I am a Marriott loyal customer. So when I found the only Marriott within 50 miles from the middle of nowhere Wisconsin, I booked it. After a canceled flight, a rebooked flight an 200 miles on the road, I was hoping for a restful stay. In the morning, I decided to snooze past 8 am. At 9 am, I heard a LOUD crash in the room above me, which was so starting, I think I wet the bed and almost ran for cover.. It sounded like someone was body slammed, or an elephant was jumping, or I was envisioning, a cartoon where a heavy metal anvil falls through the ceiling.
The noise continued so I called the front desk and informed her there were violent noises coming from the floor above me and I was expressing a safety concern. The front desk lady laughed and told me that it was simply room remodeling and they're probably moving the bed. She told me that I could move. I asked if she could please tell those folks to calm it down, and she laughed telling me she couldn't do that because "they were working." Upon peeking outside, there were probably 4 cars in the parking lot - so out of all the rooms they could have worked on, they had to pick the room above mine.
So hotel management, hear me out: She offered to move me. She would rather clean TWO guest rooms than to tell the contractors to quiet down or move to another room. Makes no financial sense from a management perspective.
The front desk's explanation made no sense. Last time I checked, the bed was on the ground so there was no reason to be slamming stuff left and right. The "workers" upstairs continued to make an insane amount of noise and ruckus. The whole room was shaking and I felt like the asbestos in the ceiling was going to fall on me, if someone didnt come crashing through the ceiling first. I'm sure the "guys doing the remodel" was someone's uncle or friend because they sounded like amateurs.
So if you ever feel unsafe at the SpringHill Suite in Wisconsin Dells, dont call the front desk, they'll laugh at you and not take you seriously. Also, they say check out is at 11 am, but with the excessive noise at 9 am.. that's their not-so-subtle way of telling you to get out at 9 am.
I was able to drive an hour to the Best Western Plus in Sparta and their rooms are SO MUCH BETTER than Springhill Suites. The staff was so nice at BW Sparta and they put me in a room that was quiet. Skip Springhill Suites and keep going to...
Read moreWe go to the Dells every year for a family water park visit. We've previously stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn, which is also nice. This year we switched because rates had gone up a lot at the other hotel. I am so glad we did. The hotel is brand new or seemed to be. We arrived late and front desk was attentive and nice, and check in was easy (with an assortment of Chupa Chups lollipops to choose from). The suites are lovely and thoughtfully designed and very modern. You get two couches that make into beds (we didn't do this but would have if our sons were with us), as well as a desk and work area that is separated from the bed by a frosted glass wall. There are plenty of lights and phone charger port by the bed. The bathroom is set off by sliding "barn doors" which allows for a lot more space. We asked for a room set back from the main road and it was totally quiet--I slept the best I did on the whole week trip the night we stayed here. The bedding is super comfortable as was the mattress. They provide Paul Mitchell products for hair and body and shower was good with a glass door (not the typical curtain) and also tall enough for my tall husband, which is a rarity. The free breakfast is in a room off the lobby and despite being busy it was ample and well maintained with the usual assortment (yogurt, cereal, decent coffee, scrambled eggs, waffle maker, hot oatmeal, biscuit and gravy, juice, plus some meat and cheese and hard boiled eggs, which was good for those of us who can't have carbs). It was clean and I thanked the lady maintaining it as she seemed to be very conscientious (not always the case with some hotels' free breakfast). I think it stopped at 9:30 which is a bit early but I guess you have to draw the line somewhere! We didn't use the indoor pool--husband looked at it and said it was small but I'm sure it's fine esp considering we are in the Waterpark Capital of the World. :) Hotel is conveniently located right across from Tommy Bartlett and a short drive to most anything. We did ask if they had a shuttle to Noah's Ark, which they didn't, but we just drove and paid for parking (we only were there for a day) but that would be a great service to add in the future. All in all I will seek out this brand for future travel, and definitely stay here next time we are...
Read moreWell……we haven’t had the best of luck with comfort inn suites here of late. This particular one really was ok for the price. They have updated with new carpet in hall ways, updated rooms but everything still felt stale in the room. We had two rooms and one smelled of smoke. We got the shade to work one time out of the three nights there. We were told the switch was on the wall as it was a handicap room. Maybe put a note somewhere near the window to let people know?? But after that one night, it never worked again. Told the girls to make sure they changed in the bathrooms and good thing they didn’t mind be awake early! Our room the AC and fan made just an awful noise. Woke up early one morning and thought I was in a construction zone! It was like big pipes being dropped. We turned the entire unit off and thankfully it wasn’t any colder or hotter. The desk outside the elevators on the second floor, had garbage shoved in it. What prompted us to even look?? No idea but the smell was horrendous! It had been there quite some time. We kept leaving the drawer open thinking staff would notice. We told them at least half a dozen times and to our amazement, it would still be there. Why do people think that was ok?? No idea, do better people! We asked for room service, we got towels and that was it. The second day they did make our beds. The lady at the front desk Saturday and Sunday was very friendly! It helped she spoke English maybe?? Breakfast was fine. Area was clean and the staff was very attentive. The entrance to this hotel was the most underwhelming entrance to a hotel I’ve ever seen lol Even Super 8 is better lol. But that was just a giggle observance more than anything . Unfortunately this experience was almost identical to our stay at the same hotel but in Mnpls. I think we will have to try a different Marriott. All in all, for the price, it was fine. Not all the amenities that many of the other hotels in the area offer with water parks, but I’m sure the price reflects that!! Just wish it was cleaner and a little more detail was spent on making sure things work. Never did get the lights figured out in...
