Family was in town for the weekend and we were thrilled to spot HuHot, since it's one of the few restaurants all four of us can agree on, so we did a u-turn and got some dinner.
Hostess greeted us right away and was very friendly and professional, which was the same with the rest of the staff we encountered, which was only the hostess, who was also our server, and the cooks who made our meals. I really appreciated that the cooks at the grill interacted with us, which hasn't happened at any other HuHot location we've visited, our regular one being in Sioux Falls, SD. It wasn't too busy at the time of our visit, which was after the normal dinnertime rush, and we were well taken care of by everyone. My nine year old son didn't want a regular meal, so he ordered off the menu and his food arrived at the same time as the rest of us were coming back to the table after our food was finished on the grill. My husband and I ordered soup as well as rice, which was also brought to our table just shortly before we came back to begin eating, so it was still nice and hot. Most times (at other locations we've been to) that part of the meal is brought to the table right after we head up to pick out our food, which I've never understood since that food is then cooled down quite a bit when we finally get back to the table. Our server was very attentive to us throughout the meal, bringing us refills before we had to ask and making sure we were satisfied.
The food bar part was neat and orderly and all options were well-stocked. I also liked that they had little recipe cards available for a large variety of different dishes, from mild to very spicy. I've not seen that at other locations and don't know why that's not integrated throughout the franchise, because it'd be very helpful for patrons not familiar with the restaurant or others who are looking to try something different like myself.
Overall, we had a thoroughly pleasant experience, and it was hands-down the best experience we've had at a HuHot location. The whole staff was great and the establishment was clean as well. No complaints at all, I just wish our usual location was a great as the one...
Read moreI'm disappointed in my family of 6. The lunch at 1215 on feb 4th which was run by 2 people in the cook area at lunch by a small man and a taller male without a name tag. The flow of them "working together" was off and had domino affected their performance. The taller one was more interested in running around the grill getting cleaned plates or water or taking back dirty bowls then focusing on cooking. I started my plate with 2 small bowls with 10 ladles total of sauce in them which should be more then enough but wasn't. They took so long making sure to "play" with the food separating it out then moving to next section or person in line that the food burnt to the grill. No matter how many ladles a person had by the end it was scorched to the grill. And then the taller cook tried to clean off the grill but had to go back to the sink multiple times for extra water to help scrub off the remaining food burnt on the grill. He wouldnt just clean a section and then add some food keeping the rotation. The short one was the only one attending to the people. I've see a busy crowd before at HuHot and this was not busy! People in back need to focus on getting out clean plates and bowls. The cooks need less "steps" around gathering and more focus on cooking, giving out, cleaning and repeating. Don't let it burn. Less time for the food to burn and more movement. In the long run that will be easier to clean too. The grill was empty too much of the time, the spatulas were not cleaned off after each person's meal. They typically at least wipe them off on the metal edge below in food tray. The waiter came around only once during our meal to check on us but didn't take away one plate. It took so long to get his attention to get back for our bill that I almost completely walked out without paying. If I wasn't such a fan of HuHot I probably would not go back. I'm most impressed by Appleton and...
Read moreI love Huhot for the amazing Mongolian grill food and the experience as well. Maybe my review may sound buyist however we had a Huhot in Eau Claire that got shut down during COVID sadly. The workers there were outdoing themselves.
Granted my waiter in the Dells here was very nice.
We had a 4 year old with. Usually I get offered the crayons with a coloring page with the menu. Had to ask. And he said he didn't think that they had that but he'll check. They did.
The buffet tables for filling the food was clean, fresh, and filled looked great!
However the sauces are set up in a confusing way here at the dells maybe get smaller labels so that when you have 3 you know what you're getting. I knew from experience what the regular sauces looked like but I brought a friend there to try it for the first time and she couldn't figure it out. Ended up putting spicy sauce in her 4 yr olds dish causing her not to be able to eat it.
This is also the quietest Huhot I've been to. No singing, no chanting, even when tipped and rang the dong. No flipping of spatulas or entertaining. I was bringing a friend for that experience. So that kinda sucked. Even a different customer tipped and rang bell 🔔. She said what? No cheer or anything huh. The guy said nope.
They also typically serve rice 🍚 in family bowl at table. But here they had huge rice maker bin that everyone has to share and dig into. Maybe 🤔 if they are short staff waiters they have less to do? Not sure.
Food was amazing for the combos I select as usual and...
