So, we booked a two bedroom condo for a mini break. We haven’t been here in 14 years and so much has changed! This was our experience Sunday-Monday. Using a key fab wristband instead of room keys was awesome! This was the first time seeing this during a hotel stay and honestly, what a brilliant, convenient way to get in/out of your room but also grant you access to the waterpark. We opened the door to our condo and our kids squealed in delight. Cons: main bathroom lighting was very dark. There wasn’t any light in the shower or toilet area where the lighted vent was. The only light bright enough was the vanity light but otherwise that was the only form of light to shower kids and or getting ready with. People outside, running around, hollering, talking extremely loud at 1:30 this morning, sucked, when I have a light sleeper of a toddler. Part of me wanted to confront them for being so loud but then didn’t want to wake anyone in our room to complain… The kitchen didn’t have any paper towel, paper plates, napkins. Had I known we needed that stuff, I would have packed that stuff from home: but otherwise, I was happy to have had pots/pans to cook breakfast, pizzas pans to make pizzas etc. I think the bummer part of the hotel was a parent letting their kid using the pool without a swim diaper on and their child pooped in the pool. We had to evacuate the kids splash pad (the ONLY area my small kids wanted to play in) and watched an employee fish turds out with a net. Told us a half an hour before we could go back to playing… so we waited it out. We waited close to 45 mins to an hour before we asked how much longer and the lifeguard said roughly another half an hour? They were waiting on maintenance to get there and were hoping to have the pool area ready before they closed. Mind you, we checked in around 4:30/5pm and ate dinner. Got our kids dressed for the pool and were there for roughly a half an hour before we were evacuated. My kids were very disappointed not being able to go down the slides anymore that night when we told them we’d play before showering for bed. I get it. Stuff happens. Just was a disappointment.
The pros: rooms were large and spacious. The whirlpool tub was so nice. My kids ended up going back to our condo to finish swimming since the evacuation happened. My husband had said the hot tub wasn’t very “hot” so warming up in our room was a nice way to end the night. I appreciated the number of towels we had in our room. All 7 of us had towels to use and didn’t have to use my kids towels after they showered to have one like we do at other hotels. The beds were fairly comfortable. I’d give it a 3.5/5. Pillows weren’t terrible but I wished I had brought mine from home. The beds could have used one more blanket for the bed (since I like my fans on to sleep and a bunch of blankets to bundle under.) Full kitchen to buy groceries to keep cold without coolers. Having your basic cooking ware was nice. I was able to cook for my family so we could save our money on the gift shop/drinks down by the pool at the resort. Knowing there’s larger condos than the 2 bed and 2 bath, is something we will remember for our next trip. We hope to come back for longer and bring some of our friends with us. Now that we know what to expect and how our kids did, we definitely plan on coming...
Read moreThis was my first time at the wilderness, we usually stay at the kalahari. We chose to stay at wilderness on the lake and we will never be returning. I expected so much more for the price. First, housekeeping is not very thorough in their cleaning. Upon entering the room our feet stuck to the floor as front entry was like an entire red soda had been dropped on the floor, a sticky spilled mess, that housekeeping managed to overlook? I don’t think the room saw the likes of a mop. The shower edges were caked with black mold and the bathroom floors covered in long strands of dark hair right when we entered the room (I have short platinum hair). It took several calls to guest services to send housekeeping - they sent someone 4 hours later. Though the room is spacious and great layout for a family to stay it had an overall dated, dingy feel. The oven, bathroom sink drain and the jacuzzi tub on the terrace were all broken - so we were surprised at $600 a night, the hotel would be so poorly maintained. We had a first floor room for the patio/grills but every night there were people that would come (not staying at the wilderness - no wristbands) coming to use the grills. It must be a known thing that the resort doesn’t police the patio/terrace because 3 different families using the tables and grill right in front of our room every night, doesn’t seem coincidence. Then the resort itself… The price gouging is shocking. $12 for fries and a non-refillable soda, the fries were COLD and stale and had been sitting under a warmer (that was no warmer than the open air) far longer than safely advisable, however, there’s no outside food allowed, so guests are forced to eat this overpriced, terrible quality food with questionable sanitation practices. The arcade is a awful ripoff - $20 for 80 “tokens” but games are 6-12 tokens per game. Don’t be fooled by the marketing, there’s no mega prizes - $120 worth of playing for some finger traps. The water parks are dingy, and though there are a lot of them (4 inside and 4 outside) they are a confusing tangled web to navigate. We preferred the pool at wilderness on the lake, tho small, it was less crowded and the outside pool had a nice view. Unfortunately, the indoor pool had a strictly enforced policy that children under 48” had to wear a life jacket even in the inches deep kiddy area. Most of the staff do not fluently speak English - it appears to be a lot of foreign exchange staff, so constant miscommunication, particularly in the dining areas. I might feel differently if we hadn’t paid ~$600 a night to stay here, but there are plenty of other dingy hotels with water parks in the Dells to stay at for half that. We paid more hoping for a nicer experience and it fell far short of...
Read moreAs far as customer service and being for the people with any form of compassion for the elderly they have totally lost it. They don’t care how they treat them I am a 60 year old African American female who was put out of the resort at 9:45 pm at night with my family and small children. There was a small confrontation at the pool where some adult Caucasian individuals a man and a woman put their hands on my 16 and 15-year-old granddaughters and accused them of skipping them in line. If they felt they were being skipped in line, they could’ve approached security on the facility grounds, but instead you chose to put your hands on my grandchildren, when my grandchildren told this to security and police officers, and they told us they would review video footage and never did yet they sided with the Caucasian family against us African-Americans and told us we had to leave in order to satisfy the other family. They took their side over what my grandchildren had told them that these adults had put their hands on them and the man of Caucasian descent, put his hands around my granddaughters neck to choke her. I explained to them that there were two sides to the story and they chose to take the other side. I also explained to them me being 60 years old I can’t see at night, so therefore, I am unable to drive with us being 2 hours away from home and that we had nowhere to go. They did not care. We offered to stay in our room for the remainder of our stay to avoid any further problems. All they said was there are other hotels in the area but we had already paid them over $700 for one night. They put us out with security and police escort and did not give us any form of refund we had only been there a total of four hours. There were people in my room that were in the shower and food being cooked on the stove. They made us leave with raw uncooked food and made everyone get out of the showers I felt this was a form of discrimination because they would not listen to our side of of things. I explained that my grandkids were the ones harm was brought to and they still didn’t care. This was the most embarrassing and traumatic experience I had ever had. My grandkids were crying and shaken up as well not knowing where we were going to stay for the rest of the night and we were there to celebrate my granddaughters 15th...
