After check-in, I walked around the casino looking for a place to have dinner. The most popular was Aloha Specialties, which resembled a popular plate lunch place in Hawaii. They even served food in ubiquitous disposable foam containers. I passed. I walked past California Noodle House (closed) and Market Street Café, as I wanted drinks and a substantive meal. That meant dining at Redwood or going off property. I was too tired to do the latter, so I got a table at the Redwood.

The decor is modern steakhouse, with subdued lighting, grey / green walls, dark wood beams and light fixtures, and a multi-colored carpet.

I ordered a Hendricks gin & tonic ($14), a warm Spinach Salad ($15), Short Rib Pappardelle ($39), and a glass of Faust Cabernet Sauvignon ($18) to accompany my entrée. Service was very leisurely, which isn’t a good thing because I don’t like waiting. To the good, my gin & tonic came with the proper slices of cucumber … Most places get this wrong. Hendricks gin is infused with cucumber and rose petals; a lime hinders the subtle flavor of the gin.

My salad was fine, except it was enormous! It would have been good for two diners. I consumed half and pushed it aside. My entrée was not quite what I’d imagined … I should have read the menu more carefully. Large chunks of boneless short rib were mixed with the pappardelle pasta in a creamy sauce that reminded me of Beef Stroganoff. It came with two pieces of buttered / cheese toast. Again, the portion was much too large for me, and I would have preferred a marinara sauce. I ate most of the pasta but left most of the short rib. It was too much like stew meat for my palate.

I asked YulA (my server) for a cup of coffee to go and left somewhat unsatisfied. Other diners seemed to be enjoying themselves, so it was likely just me and a poor choice of entrée. $93.20 plus a $20 tip for a so-so meal. Rating: 3.5, probably due more to my foul mood caused by the cancellation of the...

If you're a fan of succulent, melt-in-your-mouth prime rib, look no further than Redwood Steakhouse. Nestled in the heart of downtown Las Vegas, this hidden gem has become my go-to spot every time I visit. From the moment you step inside, you're greeted with a cozy atmosphere that invites you to unwind and indulge in a culinary experience unlike any other.

One of the standout features of Redwood Steakhouse is its welcoming ambiance. Unlike some bustling eateries where you're left waiting for a table, here you can expect a relaxed atmosphere without the crowds. It's the perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and savor a delicious meal without any unnecessary distractions.

Now, let's talk about the star of the show: the prime rib. It's no exaggeration to say that Redwood Steakhouse serves up some of the best prime rib I've ever tasted. Cooked to perfection, each bite is tender, juicy, and bursting with flavor. Whether you prefer it rare, medium, or well-done, the chefs here know how to deliver a prime rib that will leave you craving more.

What's more, the portion sizes are generous, ensuring you leave feeling satisfied and content. Paired with your choice of sides, from creamy mashed potatoes to seasonal vegetables, every aspect of the meal is thoughtfully crafted to provide a memorable dining experience.

In addition to the mouthwatering prime rib, Redwood Steakhouse boasts an extensive menu featuring a variety of other delectable dishes. Whether you're in the mood for seafood, pasta, or a juicy steak, there's something to please every palate.

Overall, I can't recommend Redwood Steakhouse's prime rib highly enough. It's the perfect blend of flavor, quality, and ambiance, making it a must-visit destination for any food lover. So next time you find yourself in town, do yourself a favor and make Redwood Steakhouse your first stop. You won't be...

Do you know the acronym WYSIWYG? "What you see is what you get." Well that precisely describes the Redwood Steakhouse in the California Hotel and Casino. And it's great.

Our servers were Yul and Maria, and you could NOT ask for two better people to take care of you. They were fantastic from beginning to end!

Speaking of beginnings, we had a reservation that was honored immediately. We got a booth in the corner in the back--just perfect for us! Immediately we received water, bread, and butter. Oh, man, was the bread delicious! We decided to forego cocktails (next time!) and we ordered a bottle of wine. Now, the wine list is modest, but we were able to find a delicious pinot noir from the Russian River Valley for a very modest price. It was great.

We started by sharing the escargot. If there ever was an excuse to eat a lot of butter and garlic, this was it. (Dip your toast!). We split a Caesar salad and moved on to the entrees. She had the filet and I had the bone-in ribeye. Both were prepared to perfection--nice coating (salt and pepper, mostly) and cooked at the exactly right level of doneness. We shared the asparagus, which was simply prepared but perfectly done. We just couldn't pull off dessert and after-dinner drinks this time, but we will when we return!

This is a locals' joint (although they seem to get a lot of overseas traffic). Sure, it's not the very top end, but it ain' no Texas Roadhouse, either. Expect thoughtful service, delicious food, good prices, and a great time.

We're "relocals," having lived her a very long time ago. It's great to be back, and it's really amazing to find that the Redwood Steakhouse has maintained its quality since way back when. This is a place we look forward to returning to, and bringing family and friends. And thanks again to Maria and Yul, who made a fine experience perfect. How about...

A very hidden gem. Yula was our server, you want his section if you go! Best. Service. Ever!! Attentive but not hovering. Friendly and engaging but not intrusive. Knew the menu like the back of his hand! We are Las Vegas locals, on a mission to try new places. Ended up with a reservation here on Valentine’s Day because Redwood was one of the few places that wasn’t fully booked and wasn’t going to be a $500 meal. Never had we stepped foot in the California Hotel casino or this restaurant. We’ve both been here a long time and never gone. Pleasantly surprised that the noise level the cleanliness and all around everything about this place. Valet was $30 but as an emerald card holder with Boyd gaming it was free for us. I had the seafood cioppino and my husband had the 12 ounce lobster tail. Market price on that was like $65 and my soup was 46 I think. It was loaded with seafood, and I had no regrets about spending that kind of price on a bowl of soup. It was really good. Our reservation was for 7:15 PM on Valentine’s Day and we were seated immediately. We did not have to wait a long time for our food. I have heard it said that you can judge a steakhouse by their creamed corn. I, personally hate creamed corn, and I was literally scraping Every last bite of it out of the dish came in. Hands-down, I recommend it and we will definitely go back.
