Omelette, Overwhelming and Butt-Bumping Blues: A Breakfast That Left Me Feeling More Confused Than Satisfied
Let me start by saying, the breakfast menu at this place gave me a full-blown headache before I even had my coffee. Forget simple choices like "eggs, bacon, and toast." No, here, you're faced with a baffling decision tree: "Basic Omelette," "Creation," or "Skillet." Now, I'm a simple soul. I don't know what a "Creation" is, and frankly, I don't care.
So, you pick your base, and then begins the agonizing process of adding ingredients – each one, of course, with its own delightful upcharge. Suddenly, my humble breakfast is morphing into a culinary Frankenstein, and my wallet is weeping silently in my pocket. By the time I'd finished "creating" my masterpiece, I felt like I'd just completed a particularly challenging level of Tetris.
The atmosphere? Let's just say it was cozy. In the "sardines in a can" kind of way. My table was practically welded to the counter, and the constant stream of patrons lining up to pay for their creations meant I spent most of my meal with someone's posterior in my face. Charming.
And then came the check. Oh, the check. Not only had I somehow managed to assemble a $20 omelette, but lo and behold, there was a "service fee" tacked on. A service fee! For what exactly? The privilege of having my personal space invaded? The pleasure of deciphering the indecipherable menu?
Needless to say, I won't be returning. I'll stick to my tried-and-true: a simple plate of eggs, bacon, and toast. And maybe a nice cup of coffee to soothe my post-traumatic breakfast...

AM Cafe is a delicious, downtown to earth, local loving restaurant. This restaurant could easily become your favorite breakfast, lunch, or brunch spot. Located in Stevensville, Michigan, this is a restaurant you enjoy for comfort, after a run, meeting with friends, or just need some good food. Lovely spot!
The food is good and hearty. The breakfast are your classic pancakes, omelets, skillets, toast and more. However, my favorite is those good grits! Every other bowl of grits I've tried in the area we're blah or had a scorch taste. But AM Cafe? I've had their grits multiple times and they were a hit every time! I get mine with extra butter, american cheese, and feta cheese. So good! The lunch features great sandwiches, soup, and more!
The service is always second to none! Beautiful smiles, great conversation, and the menu is always explained. If you could bottle the service to use at other places, that would be the best choice. Really great service.
The atmosphere is friendly, inviting, and has great decor. Entering the restaurant with a friendly greeting, seeing the awesome art, and the food smells will attract anyone to the restaurant.
Great restaurant overall! I appreciate one of the best breakfast spots around...
Read moreI’m a bit hesitant to share this review, as I feel like I want to keep this secret to myself. But, that’s just selfish. This place is great. It is everything you want in a diner. Delicious fast breakfast lunch and dinner food, simple, fresh. I love the egg breakfast, waffles, Benedict’s, biscuits and gravy, burritos, and the great inlet specials. Portions are big! Well worth the money, I usually have leftover for lunch. The place is homey, clean. The service is great and like a family. The coffee is just plain drip coffee, nothing fancy, but Starbucks is next door for your latte fix. It is located right off 94 at exit 23. If you are from Chicago and staying in Union Pier/Harbert/Three Oaks/Sawyer area, it is worth the drive a few mins north for a great breakfast that is quick and great for the family. But don’t all come at once. I still want my...
