Coastal Inn by OYO Lincoln City - Oregon Coast Hwy
Short review: The room was not up to the mark in terms of cleanliness and safety. The absence of a fire alarm in the room is a serious concern, and the peeling paint and non-functional toilet and shower are unacceptable. It’s understandable that we were uncomfortable sleeping in the sheets and using the table due to their condition.
Long review: This was a strange experience and I have stayed at quite a few properties that have been taken over by OYO. This one was was bad. Starting from the beginning. The front desk say they are open 4 to 6. Trying to check in at 5 and no one was there. Door says call so and so #, so I did. Well that phone was on the desk just ringing. 20 min later they show up. No ID required for room just sign. We were given a WiFi password, for a WiFi that i was later told don't exist. We had to be somewhere at 6 so we made the mistake of not checking the room. I'm not picky so thought how bad could it really be. We did not get back to room till after 11. and that's when we saw the condition of the room and it smelled like smoke.
There was no fire alarm in room, (found it next day beeping in the hallway on top of a fire extinguisher.) The place smells like it used to be a smoking room. The room looked like it was painted blue but ran out of that mix and got one close to the same color. Paint was pealing and window would not open if there was a fire. The bed was hard and has what I call spring assist. Meaning it bounces you out if you sit down. Was to afraid to sleep in the sheets. The toilet barely worked. The shower had black stuff in it that would not wash away, there was sticky stuff on the Table.
Next day 9 am No one to be found and the office is locked. Tried many time to call the in case of emergence #. To contact them we had one more night here and wanted to talk to them about a refund for next night and about the code violation of no smoke alarm in the room but no one was there or picked up the phone. While trying to find someone to speak with A lady who lives in the hotel(yes there are a many rooms of people who live there I was told) said it is really bad here people should not stay here.
I called the hotels app i booked with to see if they could help get a refund since we were not staying another night in this place. They called with no luck.. I finely found (I'm not naming him its not his fault) the person who checked us in much later when we came back at 4 since it says they are open at 4. I told him about the fire alarm and how bad the room was and trying to get a hold of someone. He agreed with me and he joked that OYO stands for "On Your Own" and he don't recommend staying there. He told me that my whole 2 nights would be refunded. I told him I found the smoke alarm beeping in the hallway on top of a fire extinguisher. He told me they had been looking for that beeping for a week and did not know where it was coming from or from what. "WHAT!OMG"
I waited over 30 days and got NO refund and the app I book though said since they would not pick up the phone or return messages or emails there was nothing they could do.
I've stayed here before a few times before it was a OYO and it was acceptable not great but acceptable. So just because you stayed before and it was OK it has changed.
The no smoke alarms in rooms and none in the stairs was quite alarming....

The walls, beds, pillows, UNDER the bed, bathroom, and ESPECIALLY the shower were absolutely disgusting, nothing in the room I was in seemed like it had ever been cleaned or updated. Ever. Period. The shower was YELLOW, and the pillowcases were wet, and covered in brown spots, and smears, which were also on the walls, and bed.
And that bed is something out of Silent Hill. The DATED metal boxspring was ATROCIOUSLY loud, any movement on that bed and it sounded like wrestlemania. Not that I could sleep on it, absolutely not, since the dirt and grime on my bed were already comfortable. Even THEN the bed was gross. Moist, and gross.
The bathroom is tiny, I don’t mean small, I mean TINY, there’s hardly room to open the door, and I didn’t dare get in that yellow shower.
The housekeeper was less than thrilled at my request for my room to be cleaned, only for him to not show up to do it.
There’s no screen on the window, there’s no lock on the window, and the parking lot is like a smokers fight club, I heard so much drama going on outside, that I hardly needed the dated, crooked, gross TV.
The doors for your room are NOT secure, these are BARE BONES doors and locks that will NOT keep you safe. There’s also no fire extinguishers? The building has enough built up moisture, I guess they don’t need one, but that’s not really something I’m comfortable with.
The screaming coming from the halls and parking lot, honestly was probably a sign to get out, but for whatever reason, I stayed a little longer to experience the rest of this adventure. I shouldn’t have.
The smell permeates throughout this whole building, it’s somewhere in between wet carpet, and pee.
The side door to get into the building, since the lobby closes at 5, is also just wide open, anybody can come in, or out, it doesn’t lock and there’s no way you could get in if it did, since the keys you are given are your standard house-key style.
And when you go to RETURN those keys, they’re placed in the open, in an unlocked box. Which I HIGHLY recommend you do as soon as you get them, because this place will drain your soul.
This hotel isn’t fit to have people living in it, it’s legitimately not safe, I don’t even think it’s safe for the workers. There are signs on some of the doors warning about eviction and towing, some of the windows you can see have garbage bags or blankets draped over them, the parking lot was awful since the “No smoking” policy wasn’t enforced and there was a constant stream of fighting, especially around my car, which I decided to happily take somewhere I wouldn't need extensive therapy to recover from.
There’s absolutely no reason for anybody to stay here, not even for a day. There isn’t a single thing about this place I can positively talk about. Thanks...
Read moreNever again. Couldn’t even stay 1 night. Do not send your worst in-laws here. They didn’t even ask me for my ID to verify who I was, that was my first warning about this place.
I booked this “hotel” because my options were last minute. Big mistake.
The first room I was in was disgusting, garbage under the bed, on the floor, and covering the sheets.
We were informed no smoking was allowed on the property but almost every resident smoked, not that I would open the window anyway, since there is no lock OR screen on the windows, just a massive metal bar to hopefully keep your family safe.
There was constant fighting in the parking lot, and although I made several complaints to the front desk about the room, the smoking, and the lovely people staring into my car, we were told our room was “clean enough, there was no garbage, and we’ll talk to them”.
Then, the solution we were offered was a different, dirty room.
The beds literally scream every time you move on them, the metal mesh boxspring is something out of a horror movie, and the beds and pillows were DISGUSTING, black dots, brown stains, holes, and what must of been the snack of the previous tenet (wrapper included) were just some of the gracious accommodations that awaited us.
There was not a single fire extinguisher actually in its place, the keys are returned in an unlocked easily accessible box, the numbers were written in sharpie but half of it was rubbed off, so don’t forget your room number.
This is honestly an unsafe environment, the couple running the place are massively under-qualified and understaffed, especially for the extremely sketchy clientele, the warning notes threatening eviction on several of the doors tells me this is probably a home for squatters or something equally disturbing.
Sleeping in your car for the night would honestly be a better option than this place, if this was your ONLY option, run the other way. Plus side your a short walk from the...
