The friendly staff is what makes this hotel stay worth it. Youâre greeted with a smile and people who are eager to make your stay more comfortable in any way they can.
There is a $30 daily fee that is transferable to the bar which is a great value and helps you get started. Drinks are around $18, so to get two and tip, youâre a little over but itâs worth it. The views are incredible with the Hollywood sign in the distance, sun pouring through the tinted windows to take the intensity down a bit, and the staff! I honestly cannot say enough. Super friendly, highly attentive, fun to talk to, and you can tell they love where they work. Itâs rare to find that.
Ok. Now for the downfalls here. When you get to the hotel, you have to go to the 34th floor lobby to check in. From there, you have to take an elevator bank down to your room. I ended up on the 14th floor. Once youâre there, and in order to get your car from the valet, you have to go to the 9th floor, go around the corner to a second elevator bank, then go to the 2nd floor. Yikes. It is a labyrinth in this place. PRO TIP! Make sure to scan the QR code on your valet ticket and input the TICKET NUMBER, not the ROOM NUMBER into the form. This will make sure your car is ready to go when you need it. The attendant also forgot to give me an exit ticket when I left so I had to back up the ramp and all the way back to the booth to get one. Make sure you get your exit ticket before leaving.
The rooms. Guys, theyâve been ridden hard and put away wet (thatâs a horse riding term, donât be gross). I have photos attached. Theyâre small, the beds are advertised as queens but are definitely fulls, the TV half works, there are luggage marks all over the walls, water pressure is not good, it is just a 3 star experience. I donât know what else to say.
I left my room at 9:00 am and returned around 3:45 pm. My room did not get turned over in almost 7 hours. I was surprised because someone was on my floor changing rooms when I left at 9.
Ice machines are on floors 15 and 9 (hidden in the gym). Wow. Are they hard to use. Get your ice bucket, hover it just below the spout, make sure you have only ice selected, donât touch the vessel to the back of the machine or it wonât work. Donât touch the vessel to the spout or it wonât work. Wait and wait for your ice bucket to get full, return to your floor.
I do like that there isnât an iron, but you get a garment steamer instead. Iâm an idiot and canât iron something and have it look good to save my life. I really liked that about this hotel.
I would hate to have to escape this place if a fire ever broke out. Itâs just so hard to navigate. Itâs probably because two hotels are in one building.
Again, I cannot overstate the friendliness of the staff enough here. Everyone has a genuine smile on when they talk with you, they want to help, they want to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Marriott really needs to invest some time and energy into making sure the incredible staff theyâve been able to find have the tools they need and deserve to make their guestsâ stays better.
I was talking to another guy when I went to get my car today and he expressed many of the same concerns I did. This place could be great. Everything just kind of works in the rooms. Two of the 4 bedside lights were dead in my room, the tv guide didnât work because the clock wasnât set on the tv, but you couldnât manually set the clock, things like that.
Anyway, Iâm done rambling. Decent value, though my company paid for it, but again, the staff are the best. Be nice to them and tip them well. The operational issues arenât their fault. Theyâre what make this stay...
Read moreAbsolutely the worst experience I have every had as a Bonvoy member!!We arranged for early check in way in advance and when we arrived, we were told that our room wasn't ready, but we were offered a handicap accessible room. When I said that I had arranged for early check in, I was told that I had but it "wasn't guaranteed". I was told I could take the accessible room or wait until 4PM when my original room would be available. We took the accessible room. It's not bad but would have preferred the walk-in shower. When we got in the room, we were greeted by a disgusting puddle of sticky fluid on the floor. I have attached several pictures for your reference. This was at approximately 2PM and when I called down to the front desk, they said they would send someone "immediately". I tried to log onto the enhanced internet which is free for me due to my Bonvoy status as we are working remotely. I was greeted with the error message "Entered Information Does Not Match Our Records". When I went to the front desk, I was told to wait a bit as it takes time for the previous information to clear from the system. After waiting approximately 45 minutes with nobody showing up to clean the disgusting floor, I went down to the front desk and asked to have someone clean the floor again and they took my room number down and said they would take care of it immediately. We decided to go and have a cocktail and ended up at the Moxy bar which was great! After spending some time walking around the area, we came back to our room around 6PM and the FLOOR STILL WAS NOT CLEANED! I went to the front desk again and patiently asked for someone to clean our floor. Finally, after my third attempt, someone came to clean the floor. Unfortunately, despite her efforts, the floor still has sticky spots, not to mention the fact that our shoes are now sticky as well from walking on the floor. We tried to go to the AC Bar & Lounge for an evening nightcap around 8:30PM and despite the fact your website says it is open until midnight, they were closing up, so we ended up back at the Moxy bar. In the morning, I got up and once again tried to connect to the enhanced internet and received the same error message. When I went downstairs, I once again asked that someone clean the floor when they clean the room and mentioned the error message when trying to connect to the internet and was told A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT STORY!!! This time, I was told that the hotel has been having problems with the enhanced internet and they were working through the issues. A hotel that large should have food options available. There is no room service and the restaurants and bars were closed multiple times during the times they were supposed to be open according to their website. The entrance to the hotel is in an alley, you have to go to the 39th floor to go to the lobby and then take a second elevator DOWN to your room.
I contacted one of their managers and he offered to upgrade my room and would contact me the next day to arrange. He did NOT contact me until two days later and offered me a room upgrade for our last night of a four night stay. At that point, it made no sense to pack up for one evening. They could have discounted my room but never even offered even with all the problems we had. Absolutely horrible experience. At approximately $500 a night, I...
Read moreWe booked a corner city-view roomâone of the pricier options. While the views were truly incredible and the 24/7 gym was a great amenity, our stay was, overall, an extremely regrettable experience that does a great disservice to the Marriott brand.
The rooms, especially the corner ones, get hot. The A/C is restricted by strict governors, capping it at 66°F (a temperature it never actually reaches because itâs not sufficiently powerful), and it automatically resets to 70°F every morning. As a result, my partner and I were constantly waking up in pools of sweat. I recommend bringing a fan or buying one (which we eventually had to do).
The bathrooms are unironically the worst Iâve encountered in any hotel. Theyâre essentially transparent and acoustically amplified stalls, offering zero privacy if someone else is in the room. The glass actually creates an echo and amplifying effect that seems almost designed to embarrass your partner and ruin the experience. It may be tolerable for solo travelers, but be wary if youâre with a guest. Many guests seemed to prefer going down to the lobby restrooms to avoid uncomfortable situations in their rooms.
Upon arrival, we found that the sheets had not been cleaned, and there were discarded food scraps on the floor. It took several calls to finally get fresh sheets delivered by staff.
While some of the staff members were pleasant and clearly interested in helping us out (though powerless to execute), others showed clear contempt for their guests, clearly holding back an imminent breakdown as I ask them to ring up my microwave noodles.
The hotelâs lobby is on the 34th floor, and a keycard is required to access the first floor, which serves only as a vestibule for elevators. This setup creates an awkward situation for food delivery, as youâre essentially required to go down and meet the driver yourselfâthereâs no other way for them to access the building.
Other reviewers have noted that the surrounding area is generally unpleasant and feels unsafe. This is accurate, though is true for all of downtown Los Angeles and not something I would specifically hold against the property. As far as DTLA goes, the location is central and acceptable.
Finally, the hotel charges a mandatory $35 âdestination feeâ thatâs not included in the advertised room rate. So a $180 night becomes really $215. In exchange, they offer something like an $18 coupon to the overpriced on-site restaurantâwhich, judging by how empty it always was, few people...
