Brought my boyfriend here for his birthday. We took the one-time wheel throwing class to try it out, and it was an exquisite experience! I had called earlier in the week to confirm that they would still be open in the midst of the Covid madness. John, our teacher, assured me that refunds would be honored up until the day of the class, even though policy asks for a 5 day notice, in the case of closure. He was very accommodating and I felt at ease about that (since it was a birthday gift, after all!).
Once we got to the studio, we saw that there was open air flow (garage-like windows/wall), and everyone was wearing a mask and maintaining social distancing. No concerns there. The space itself is gorgeous and clean, too.
John was a really good teacher. I would know because I’m a special education teacher myself! He took his time to be very deliberate and detailed in his demonstrations. He spent time with each student individually, offering critique and support mindfully and with positivity. His verbal explanations were so on-point, and it was very easy for me to make minor adjustments in my movements to be successful at the wheel. I ended up with 2 lovely pieces, and so did my boyfriend. The studio fires them up for a later pick up. We had an incredible time! Absolutely worth the visit and trip to LA.
Highly recommend in this time of uncertainty and...
Read moreThis one-time pottery class in Los Angeles is a blast! I’ve worked with clay before, but we signed up for a one-time pottery class at Throw Clay LA when we were in town with friends. The class is well structured, fun, and very approachable for anyone, whether it’s your first time or you have past experience with clay.
In our private two-hour session, we got the chance to throw a pot on the wheel and handbuild our own mug. (Many other studios I looked at only let you make one piece for the same price. Some even charge extra for firing and glazing. Throw Clay LA includes two pots and they include trimming, firing and glazing, which makes a huge difference in the experience and the value.)
At the end of class we picked between four glazes for finishing our pieces. A few weeks later, they were ready. They come out food, microwave and oven safe and are something we can actually use at home. Perfect for salsas or a scoop of ice cream! I've gone back with other friends for the One-Time Potter's Wheel since.
The studio has a great vibe, welcoming instructors (Aidan and Bella were fantastic), and a great energy that makes it perfect for anyone looking for creative fun. Highly recommend Throw Clay LA’s one-time pottery class as a fun and memorable way to spend an afternoon in...

Originally I was a bit disappointed with my experience here. I signed up for the two part beginner class and was really looking forward to it. However, the overall class experience felt extremely rushed and we didn’t have a ton of opportunity to fix any mistakes we made along the way. In addition, we weren’t given many glaze options that looked flattering to our design like the examples displayed around the studio. I had high hopes since the overall studio environment was nice and seemed to be a peaceful haven for pottery
However For the staff the second instructor who taught us how to throw was extremely friendly and patient. 💖
I think I would’ve enjoyed my experience more if the class was solely focused on one topic instead of divided into two different workflows that rushed the overall...
