This is a detailed account of our disappointing experience at the Knights Inn Mackinaw City. Our room was confirmed for July 26th. On July 26th, at 7:21 pm, the hotel called us to confirm we were still arriving. At 9:51 pm, we called the hotel to update our 10:30 pm eta. |After a 12-hour journey, we arrived at the hotel to find out that our confirmed room had been given away to another family with the same last name. Despite the clerk admitting that he did not check their ID, he woke up the family (without our knowledge) in the room that should have been ours, telling them they had to leave, but they did not move. I personally thought this was insane to ask them to move and confirmed we needed to find an alternative. We were then offered a deluxe suite with a king bed at a discount, which we accepted (even though we knew we would all not get bed space) due to our desperation for a bed and a shower after the long journey. However, we were surprised to find an open shower and jacuzzi in the room, providing zero privacy. To add to our discomfort, my son got locked in the single toilet for 5 minutes. The next morning, I expressed our disappointment to the check-in clerk, that he did not inform us of the open jacuzzi/ shower and he responded, “I know”. I requested a credit for our room. I was told to speak with the manager who would be in later that day. My several attempts to reach her through out the week were in vain. Despite numerous promises and complete run around, there were no return calls. I called again on August 1st and finally spoke with the manager. She offered a free night which was unreasonable. She said she needed to speak with the owner and would call back that same day. It is now 10 days later and no return call. |Overall, the customer service and management at this hotel are horrendous, and it's clear that they do not prioritize the needs and expectations of...

Read moreThis was the first time ever traveling with a dog, so maybe my expectations should not be as high as they normally are for a motel. At least the room was good for the dog: There was a back door that led directly to a grassy area. It was a good thing there was another door, because the key card didn't work on the front door, and the physical key only worked on the back door. The room smelled musty when we arrived, and after running the air conditioner constantly it still did, but not quite as bad. There were spiders and earwigs constantly in the room. The shower/tub didn't drain well, so I was ankle deep in water during showering. Something was wrong with the TV, too. We had to get a first floor room, since the dog doesn't do stairs very well, and that meant two queen beds rather than a king room; all of those are on the second floor and there's no elevator. One of the two beds was so soft and spongey it was unusable. The entire building is in need of exterior maintenance, with peeling paint and falling stonework. The continental breakfast consisted of a container of bagels and jars of cream cheese, peanut butter and jelly, a minifridge with yogurt cups, and a coffee pot. If there was anything else, I didn't see it. The location was very good: about two blocks from the large park with the fort and lighthouse, about four or five blocks from several small parks by the water, and about the same to the main street of town with restaurants and shops and the...
