We stopped in at the Chippewa room on our way up into the UP for an early dinner. We were greeted and sat promptly by the hostess, who was very personable and polite, and it was not a long wait until our server John came to the table. Once you sit down, they bring complimentary warm cheese crusted bread rolls to your table, which are quite good. I ordered the trout special with rice pilaf and a salad, and my fiance ordered the lasagna.
My salad was odd, it included whole baby carrots which was a bit childish, in my opinion grating the carrots over the salad would have been a better idea; however, the raspberry dressing included with it was very good and seemed house made, and the greens themselves were healthy and not at all wilted. The Armenian rice pilaf was good, however the trout itself was undercooked, which I brought up with our server John and he was very quick to take it back and have the kitchen cook it further to address the issue. When the trout was brought back, it was almost perfectly cooked (hard to cook fish right if you have to do it twice) and they had refilled my rice pilaf for free and without ever addressing that they had, which was a kind gesture, and I happily ate it all. When cooked properly, the trout special is very good for the $21 I paid. My fiancé's lasagna was drowned in sauce, and it was difficult to locate the noodles. According to her, it was good and she enjoyed it, but she was sure to tell me that she did not like the sauce to noodle ratio.
Overall, for what I paid, I enjoyed the service and the staff is wonderful to deal with, but aspects of the food were not up to par for how the Chippewa Room markets itself and for the average price of a meal there. If these few issues are sorted out though, I'd happily go back for dinner again, especially given how pleasant...
Read moreWe went during COVID-19 as our first dining experience since quarantine. We felt very comfortable here. The tables are distanced appropriately and everyone wore masks. Hand sanitizer, the works. If you're thinking of dipping your toes back into dine-in after quarantining, I don't think you'll find anywhere better.
I can't understate how excellent our service was. The reservation process was simple. Our waiter Jamie was an absolute rock star, he knew all the market prices off the top of his head, answered questions about the menu, and even joked around with us a little. Very personable.
Since this was our first night out in months, we decided to run the gamut. Steaks, lobster, drinks, desserts. Everything was top notch flavors-wise. The steaks were a little over the cook level we ordered, but still fantastic. Warm bread was served gratis as an appetizer. Cocktails were well mixed.
Prices are a premium, but you get what you pay for here. It's possible to eat cheaper by sticking to foods like sandwiches and chicken fingers.
Overall it gets my highest rating. In an area where tourist food abounds, the Chippewa Room is a...
Read moreI have celiac disease. We called ahead of time to ask if there were gluten-free options, to which they stated that they "have a gluten-free menu." We arrive to find no such thing, other than an allergen OUTLINE for our server to use. This outline states french fries as a "safe option" for dinner, but not for lunch. Sounded odd, so I asked for clarification and it turns out the french fries are NEVER safe. Server confirmed that all fries (at all times of day) are fried in the SAME OIL as their other fried/breaded items. Enzymes in my liver dangerously elevate in such circumstances, putting me at a higher risk for liver disease. This is NOT a gluten-free option. Manager wasn't concerned at all, never even came out to apologize. Truly a disgusting display of carelessness and cross-contamination. DO NOT EAT HERE if you have ANY ALLERGY of any kind, regardless of what they tell you over the phone. Take your money elsewhere, where they will take care of you. This management team couldn’t care less. Brennan,...
